Gambrill Park Loop Ride to Catoctin Mtn Park past Camp David
Details
MD Trail 36C - Gambrill Park Loop Past Camp David in Catoctin Mtn Park · Ride with GPS
Come join us for an exceptional 34-mile loop ride from Gambrill Park Tea Room along the top of the Catoctin Mtns into the Catoctin Mtns Park going past Camp David and back to the Tea Room. Restrooms at beginning, middle and end.
Picnic lunch will be at the Chestnut Picnic area mile 14.5ish just prior to Camp David.
Ride highlights include two nice downhill segments. First 1.5 mile starting at mile 11.5ish, second 3+ miles starting from entrance to Camp David at mile 15ish. This downhill ends at the park office that has a nice museum. At mile 18.5ish ride out onto the dam for a great photo opportunity of the Hunting Creek Lake.
At mile 19.5ish turn into Cunningham Falls state park for a nice 2+ mile loop or skip it and continue straight on the route although this has the last restrooms on route.
Please note this route 36C may need to be omitted entirely due to security reasons around VIPs at Camp David. Organizer will post if this route needs to be omitted NLT Friday afternoon prior to the ride here on meetup.
MD Trail 36B - Gambrill Park Loop via Wigville Rd · Ride with GPS 23 miles
MD Trail 36A - Gambrill Park Loop via Fox Tower Rd · Ride with GPS 24 miles
These two routes cut off 10ish additional mile from the Camp David route. However, you do get to enjoy a nice 1+ mile downhill.
The only restroom on these two routes is at the beginning.
None of the above three routes travel on off road trails. Although the routes follow paved roads, they are not heavily traveled vehicle roads.
There are a number of great scenic photos opportunities along the route in Gambrill Park.
