This walk on the Heysen Trail starts from the Bridgewater Inn and follows Cox Creek to the Fairy Garden in Deanery Reserve. After passing through the second of two tunnels, we enter Mount George Conservation Park. A popular destination for bushwalkers and birdwatchers, Mount George Conservation Park’s landscape ranges from wetlands to deep forests, with rocky outcrops and superb views of the surrounding hills. Our walk will take us around the Ridge Hike near the summit.
Our destination is a quaint little café on the outskirts of the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens, where we will have a 20min stop for coffee/drinks. Following the break, will head back the way we came, without re-entering Mount George CP.
Good hiking shoes are recommended. Pack raingear and dress in layers!
Meet at 8.50 for a 9.00 am start on the western carpark of the Bridgewater Inn. Coming from the freeway, you will need to drive past the hotel, then turn right into the carpark driveway, which is barely visible from the road (see precision pin drop). Please DO NOT go into the front carpark!!
Note: this hike has a 20-min stop at a café at 11.00am (purchase is not mandatory). We will get takeaways and sit across the street on the Community-Hall grounds.
