** Let's meet under the clock at Melbourne Central at 5:45 PM. I will be at the meeting point till 6:00 PM for anyone coming late. Since the groups are formed between 5:45 PM and 6:00 PM, it is best to come between this time frame to be allocated to a group. If you are coming after 6:00 PM, you will need to find the group on your own on Level 2 of Melbourne Central. The groups should be sitting mostly near plantation. Please ensure that it has atleast $14. You will actually need less than this depending on how you have used myki for rest of the day. Camera is optional as I take solo photos for everyone with the Milkyway for free. There are no restaurants in the destination. Please have early dinner or carry takeway food to eat on the train. About: The Milky Way Galaxy is one of the most interesting naked eye sights in the night sky. We live under light-polluted skies and to see a glimpse of the Milkyway, we need to travel outside the city. Stay outside in full darkness for a few minutes, then look up. There will be a faint "river" of light crossing the sky. That's the Milky way. Full dark adaptation occurs after 30 minutes of not seeing any source of light, but this is not required for seeing our galaxy. 1000 Steps Dandenong Ranges-Kokoda Track Memorial Walk(Melbourne Central Start)

Please remember to bring your myki. please make sure you have either myki pass or $6.40 on your myki money. You can also board the train from any station on the route or meet us at Upper Ferntree Gully Station. If you are not joining us at Melbourne Central, the payment needs to be made in advance using the following link: https://www.trybooking.com/BEEVH Located within the Dandenong Ranges National Park, the 1000 Steps Kokoda Walk is a unique and renowned tourist spot in the Dandenong Ranges. Nicely maintained by rangers, the Kokoda Track is a beautiful walking track with adjacent forested areas, bushlands and various scenic points. You will get a small glimpse into the physical effort experienced by the Australian soldiers during 1942 Length: 3 kilometres Walk Time: 2 hr return Grade: Steep (reasonable level of fitness required) Track: Gravel, Dirt, Stairs The 1000 Steps includes stony steps that lead to the popular One Tree Hill; which starts at the cafe and leads up the top of the mountain. Created in the early 1900s, the 1000 Steps Walk was originally made from the trunks of tree ferns laid along the wetter areas of the track to make the 290 metre ascent somewhat easier. Plaques along the trail depict the lives of the soldiers who fought and died on the real Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea, during World War II. Please note that this walk is not suitable for wheelchair users. Appropriate footwear is also a must. Sturdy shoes providing good grip, comfort and protective ankle support is recommended.
