Speaker: John Menadue AO is the publisher, founder and Editor in Chief of Pearls and Irritations, an online publication that seeks to provide a platform for policy discussion missing from mainstream media in Australia. Pearls and Irritations has a large following particularly among progressive opinion leaders in Australia.
John has had a long career in the media, public service and business. He was formerly private secretary to Gough Whitlam, Secretary of Prime Minister and Cabinet, serving both Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser, Ambassador to Japan, Secretary of Immigration and CEO of Qantas. John was also Secretary of the Fabians in Adelaide in the early fifties, along with Don Dunstan and Clyde Cameron.
John will speak about his life and work, and give us his reflections on the media today, and how they shape the public narrative - followed by what we expect will be a lively Q&A and discussion.
