What we’re about

Friendly Folk ACT aims to encourage members to socialise and make the most of living in Canberra.
It's about having fun and enjoying outings with friendly company.
It can be difficult to make new friends in Canberra, especially if you are new to the Territory. We provide the opportunity to expand your group of friends.
All members are encouraged to recommend events they wish to attend.
If something interests you and you want company, we can try to make it happen.
We are always open to ideas and suggestions for events and activities.

The "Friendly Folk 55+" group is about positive vibes, making friends and interacting with others. We want to have trouble-free events that are safe, as well as comfortable, for everyone. Hence you should assume members are only looking for friendship and act accordingly.

You are expected to treat each other with kindness, and respect boundaries at all times. While everyone will recognise that some interactions can be misunderstood, all forms of harassment or abuse will not be tolerated.
The group is also about regular, meaningful and straightforward participation to show respect for the whole membership and it's organisers/hosts. Hence we strive for an active and engaged membership that is mindful when indicating attendance, as well as diligent in notifying and timing any "inability to attend". Doing this conscientiously is much appreciated by everyone and shows the respect we all need.
To become a member, you are required to provide...
- your first name and at least the first initial of your surname on your profile,
- a clear close-up photo of (just) your face so we can recognise you and welcome you to events. (no dark glasses etc.) Think along the lines of a passport photo of your face - one that clearly identifies your face.
Applications cannot be accepted unless you have agreed and complied to these requirements.
If you alter your profile and it no longer meets our requirements, you may be removed from the Group. You would be free to re-apply within the guidelines.
If you have not visited the group for 6 months or more, your membership may be cancelled.
If you have not attended an event in the past year, your membership may be cancelled.
You would be free to reapply if your interests change.
