Rural Walk: Ashbourne and Thorpe Cloud

Another interesting new route, this time from a new start point at The Gateway to the Peak District

Logistics:
Meet: 10:20 check-in, to start within 5-10 minutes, or earlier if all visible are ready.
Distance: Around 10 miles
Start Point: Mappleton Lane (Tissington Tunnel) P&D Car Park, meet by its entrance to The Tissington Trail Tunnel.
Address: Mappleton Road, Ashbourne, DE6 1FD
Parking: Plentiful at the start point, as there is a field overflow area, or alternatively park in Ashbourne town centre and maybe walk through the tunnel.
Terrain: Open rural landscapes, undulating with viewpoints and one decent ascent, though overall not excessively strenuous.
Route: Figure-9 shaped route retracing just the first few metres of The Tissington Trail
Latecomers: We pass The Okeover Arms in Mapleton after one mile, roadside parking in village is possible, though don't be late of course.

Refreshments: Picnic stop, and pub stop after 6 or 7 miles at The Old Dog (Thorpe) or The Coach & Horses (Fenny Bentley).
Bring: Waterproofs & Refreshments & Good walking footwear, and clothing to match the weather.

As with any outdoor activity, there is some inherent risk. Whilst we aim to avoid unnecessary risks, participants should take all reasonable precautions themselves. A suitable pace for the walk will be determined by the walk leader, which others must observe by keeping in visible distance, not forging ahead or lagging behind. Those attending are totally responsible for their own safety. You must be comfortable walking the specified distance in order to attend please.

Places are not unlimited, so withdrawing in the last 24 hours is not allowed. Attendances shouldn't be compromised by ghosting (no-shows, late withdrawals, and uncommitted waitlisting) so reliable attendees will take priority at future events.
