Bonus discussion in August: The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau!

Written in 1762, The Social Contract explores the theoretical foundations of legitimate authority that is compatible with individual freedom.

We prepare by reading the following (~30 pages in total):

  • Book I (foundational)
  • Book II Chapter 1–4 (sovereignty and general will)
  • Optional: Book II Chapter 5 (applied chapter on punishment)

Looking forward to a fruitful discussion!
