• In 1987, the City officially established Powell Butte as a nature park and the park was opened to the public in 1990. Managed by Portland Parks & Rec, today, miles of trails accommodate hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.
• Abundant wildlife populates the park including rabbits, ring-necked pheasants, ground squirrels, raccoons, gray foxes, skunks, bats, chipmunks, coyotes and black-tailed mule deer. Powell Butte is home to many birds of prey with its open meadows, groves of wild hawthorn trees, forested slopes of Western red cedar, and wetlands near Johnson Creek.
• We will enjoy an approximately 4 mile hike. A friend lives in a home abutting Powell Butte and has a nice flat backyard for us to dance in. She plans to co-host and guide us from where we meet at the parking lot, thru trails and to our dance spot in her backyard. Thanks Jess!
• Nia Somatic movement is gentle, fun, inclusive, healing, move-at-YOUR-own-pace & in YOUR body's way. It is about what it FEELS like, not so much what it looks like, y'all.
• We use headphones (provided), handsfree mic, radio transmitter & iPod technology!
• Consider having a breakfast with protein and packing a snack perhaps and please bring your water bottle.
• If your intention to attend changes, pretty please change your RSVP status on MeetUp to "Not Going" as soon as your plans change. I have limited sets of headphones and would love to avoid "no-shows" from excluding others who wish to join. THX.
• Please avoid asking others on a date during this event. My intention is to foster safe space to meet new people, hike, dance and FEEL the music. Please respect your fellow attendees. I remove members who aim to "pick-up". Please let me know if you are ever made uncomfortable by another during an event.
