Sunday 7/19: 🌤️hike.🎧Nia.🥾hike @ Banks Vernonia Trail to Buxton Trestle
Manning Lumber Remanufacturing, 20110 Nw Pihl Rd, Banks, OR, USSunday, July 19th ~ 9am-12:30pm
Banks Vernonia State Trail to Buxton Trestle- We will meet at Manning Trailhead, which MeetUp's map could not compute... but your Google Maps GPS will get you there.
- Type in: "Manning Trailhead"
- Coming from Portland, turn right off of 26 onto Pihl Road about 2 minutes after passing *Sunset Jerky Store (*on your left).
- Look for brown signs for Manning Trailhead on your right.
- There are vault toilets near the parking area.
- Our hike will take us along the Banks Vernonia State Trail.
- We will be hiking out and back to the Buxton Trestle.
- The round trip distance will be around 5.7 miles with elevation gain of 220 feet (aka flat).
- Constructed in 1920, this decommissioned railroad trestle supported passing trains before being converted into a rail trail.
- We will walk across the Buxton Trestle's 700-foot span, a flat and easy stroll, while admiring the forest from the canopy level.
- We will hear the rushing water of Mendenhall Creek below as we look out onto a grassy clearing surrounded by a forest of Doug firs, big-leaf maples, and red alders.
- We will dance our Nia Somatic movement next to the trestle (where we will also have access to vault toilets).
- After dance will hike back to the parking area.
- Tony and I plan to pack a lunch (and leave it in a cooler in our car) to enjoy after the event. The walking and dancing makes us too hungry to want to drive home. We are always happy when others join our picnic.
- Nia Somatic movement is gentle, fun, inclusive, healing, move-at-YOUR-own-pace & in YOUR body's way. It is about what it FEELS like, not so much what it looks like, y'all. No prior experience necessary.
- We use headphones (provided), handsfree mic, radio transmitter & iPod technology!
- Please wear clothing you like to move in and hooded rain gear (when needed) to protect our headphones.
- Be sure to have a healthy breakfast that includes protein & pack a snack perhaps.
- Bring your full water bottle.
- If your intention to attend changes, pretty please change your RSVP status on MeetUp to "Not Going" as soon as your plans change. I have limited sets of headphones and would love to avoid "no-shows" from excluding others who wish to join. THX.
- Please avoid asking others on a date during this event. My intention is to foster safe space to meet new people, hike, dance and FEEL the music. Please respect your fellow attendees. I remove members who aim to "pick-up". Please let me know if you are ever made uncomfortable by another during an event.
We would LOVE to have you join us …

Sunday 7/26: 🌤️ hike.🎧Nia.😎hike @ Guy W. Talbot Park/Latourell Falls
43088 NE Latourell Rd, Corbett, OR, USSunday, July 26th ~ 9am - 12pm
Guy W. Talbot Park/Latourell Falls, Corbett, OR- We will meet @ Guy W. Talbot Park. (if you park at the Latourell Falls lot you will not be near us to start the hike. Please go to the pin provided and read the MeetUp location directions.)
- Latourell Falls is the closest of the major Columbia River Gorge waterfalls to Portland, and it's also one of the most photogenic. A tall single-plunge waterfall of 224 feet, it spills over the lip of an undercut amphitheater of tall pillars of columnar basalt. An eye-catching splash of chartreuse-colored golden cobblestone lichen (Pleopsidium flavum) adorns the upper amphitheater and contrasts with the dark basalt walls.
- We will hike approximately 2.5 miles or so on some easier and some steeper trails. This is technically a hike~hike~Nia, as we will dance in a grassy field close to the parking area after our hiking loop.
- This hike is by far one of my favorites. I love the fern-filled lush forest trails, the waterfalls, the foot bridges, all the huge magestic trees and the open picnic area where we will dance our Nia.
- Tony and I plan to pack a lunch (to leave in a cooler in the car) and picnic after the event. We are always happy to have others join.
