What we’re about
Do you live in Northeast Florida, love the ukulele and long to find others with whom to play? Then this is the group for you! We usually meet at Joseph’s Pizza on Main Street (Northside location) the third Saturday afternoon of the month. Keep an eye on the schedule, because we sometimes deviate from that. There are additional gatherings from time to time.
Invite your friends, recommend sponsors, share music, and let's get a date on the calendar!

Come join us this Saturday, June 7th, at our new location in Orange Park
Join us this Saturday at the Irie Diner in Orange Park from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. As this is our first jam at this location, please let us know if you can attend so that we can let them know how many to expect.
Come early for lunch to support the venue who provides the room to us for free and to get a good seat. We think you will love the Irie Diner. The food, the staff, and the atmosphere are wonderful and welcoming. Ken and I have been there twice and enjoyed our meals both times. Others who have gone have said the same.

Location: Orange Park on Park Ave. (US17) about a mile south of 295 on the East side of the road – Across the street from Cheers.
If this works as well as we expect, and if some of you would be willing to assist on those weekends that Ken and I cannot be there, we will continue to meet here on the first Saturday of each month. This is in addition to our third Saturday jams at Joseph’s Pizza.
For those of you who are new to the JUkes (Jacksonville Ukulele Society) jams:
We are a very welcoming group. Don’t worry if you are a beginner. The songs and chords are projected onto a large screen TV and you can always just play the C chord when it comes around (one finger on the 3rd Fret, 1st string). The rest of the time, hold your chord hand lightly across all the strings on the neck of the ukulele to mute the sound and practice the strum. This lets you enjoy the jam and sing along if you like. It also gives some strumming practice without having to pay close attention to the chords. By listening to the rhythm, you can learn the strumming patterns and learn to keep time – not to mention that it helps to build muscle memory and makes it easier when you are ready to learn other chords.
Our group has players at all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, and a few who just want to sing along or enjoy ukulele music. Everyone is welcome, but please do not come to the jams if you have been directly exposed to Covid recently or have symptoms that are associated with it. Some of our members are elderly and some have health issues. We want to provide an environment as safe as possible.
We can project all of the songs in the Dropbox folders (see links below), as well as the songs from Jumpin' Jim's Ukulele Songbooks – the yellow one and the blue one. The jam will start with a few easy songs to warm up and to welcome any beginners. Then everyone will have a turn to choose songs. When your turn comes, you can choose a song to lead or request a song for someone else to lead or just pass and play or sing along to the songs that others select.
