Please read the entire post before signing up!
We will be joining Jay's paddle so we are limiting the # of participants, so everyone starts on the waitlist and everyone must sign up for themselves, no guests. Please only sign-up if you want to attend. Pleae be king.
Be ready in the water to launch at 5pm, get there early to set up & park.
These swallows are a twisting, swirling tornado of flying birds, crating mesmerizing vortex-like patterns in the sky. The annual murmuration is a spectacular natural phenomena. Every Sept, flocks of migrating tree swallows roost on the CT river. They follow the lead of 1 or more birds as they coalesce into a tornado and spiral down by the thousands into the reeds of Goose Is off the Old Lyme shore.
We will paddle up river to where the swallows land on Goose Is just before sunset. They roost at sunset, so we will be returning after dark. Everyone must have a white light for safety on their kayak. Headlamps are also great for reloading kayaks on the cars. Pack a change of clothes in a drybag, wear layers, bring food, water etc.
Only sea kayaks 14' minimum, so SOTS, SUPS, inflatables. Surf Ski's OK.
This paddle is a gathering of people enjoying a common interest, not a guided tour, your personal safety is your responsibility alone. You should know how to assist/self rescue, PFD's must be fastened & worn. Please stay with the group and paddle in a pod especially on our return. Parking is limited and bring wheels/cart helpful. Waivers must be signed if you haven't paddled with us this season.
The launch is before the Deep Ed center, address for GPS purposes.
My cell if needed: (845) 548-2198.
