Join us on a walk from Gospel Oak to Wood Green

Walk
This 10km walk crosses Hampstead Heath, then through Highgate Woods and along the Parkland Walk to Alexandra Palace, finishing at Wood Green.

Practical Information:
Difficulty: Moderate, with some potential uphill sections in Hampstead Heath and Alexandra Park.
Terrain: A mix of paved paths, gravel tracks.
Potential refreshment Stops:
Kenwood House Cafe (Highgate).
The Terrace at Alexandra Palace.

Hampstead Heath and Alexandra Park are two of North London's most significant, award-winning green spaces, managed for conservation and public enjoyment. Both offer panoramic views of the city skyline, rich biodiversity, and act as vital "green lungs" for London.

Hampstead Heath:
Swimming: Famous for its natural swimming ponds (men’s, ladies’, and mixed) and a 60-metre open-air lido at Parliament Hill.
Views: Parliament Hill provides legally protected views of the London skyline, often called "Kite Hill".
Culture & History: Inspiration for C.S. Lewis and painter John Constable, it includes the Kenwood House estate and the pergola-lined Hill Garden.

Alexandra Park
Biodiversity: Home to over 7,500 trees and 38 species of plants, animals, and fungi that are classified as rare or protected.
Recreation: Features a boating lake, walking trails, and hosts the annual Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival.
Views: Offers sweeping, panoramic views of London.

MEETING DETAILS

Meeting Point – Just outside Gospel Oak Cafe (66 Mansfield Rd, NW3 2HU), a 5 minute walk from the Gospel Oak station (London Overground).

Key Details for Reaching Gospel Oak Coffee:

  • Train: Gospel Oak Overground station is the closest stop.
  • Bus: Routes C2 and 214 pass nearby.

MEETING POINT: 11:30am at Gospel Oak Cafe, ready to start the walk by 11:45am.

LUNCH: Please bring a pack lunch for the walk. No guarantee for a food / drink until we finish the walk.

WALK FINISHES: Approx 15:00 at Wood Green

PUB SOCIAL: We'll head to a nearby pub in Wood Green for a social chit chat over drinks.

Latecomers will have to either catch up at the walk or meet in Wood Green.
