About us
LoMAZ is a friendly, diverse, and inclusive group of people who enjoy visiting museums and exhibitions, bookended by a trip to a café and a pub. The group is for Gen X and Millennials who were born in the years 1965–1996. Our volunteer hosts run a full calendar catering to a variety of tastes and interests. If you love history, culture, exploring places, and meeting people, please come along!
How does LoMAZ work?
It's free to come along to LoMAZ events. If a museum or exhibition has an entry fee, you'll need to buy your own ticket. Each event listing will tell you whether you need to buy it in advance and provide a link.
For each event, we meet and greet in a nearby café. LoMAZ hosts will be wearing badges and there will be a LoMAZ sign on the table. We then go to the museum or exhibition, where you're free to wander around at your own pace. Afterwards, we head to a nearby pub for a chat over a drink. The café and pub socials are optional, so it’s fine if you just prefer to join us for the museum visit.
Each event listing will give you all the details, plus a link to an event WhatsApp group you can join to help you find the group on the day.
Event capacities
LoMAZ was founded to create a friendly, welcoming community. We keep our regular events small so members can make genuine connections - as well as comfortably fit into a nearby pub afterwards!
We also have two types of events which have no attendee limits:
- LoMAZ Unlimited: Single-room gallery visits followed by a pub social.
- Museum Lates for Dates: Our dedicated singles nights which, unlike our regular events, are for singles only.
RSVPs and etiquette
To keep our community considerate for both members and hosts, we ask that you keep a few guidelines in mind:
- Free up your spot: If you can no longer make it, please switch your RSVP to 'No' as soon as possible so another member can sign up.
- The 'no-show' policy: Members who regularly sign up but don't show up will unfortunately be removed from the group.
- Last-minute changes: Try to avoid a pattern of backing out of events after signing up, as that makes planning difficult and may affect your membership.
- RSVP required: Please don't show up if you are still on the waitlist or haven't RSVP'd, as we won't have space for you.
Our community values
To keep our group a welcoming place for all, we ask that everyone treats each other with kindness. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, discrimination, or disrespectful behaviour of any kind.

Please remember that everyone attends LoMAZ events at their own risk. By signing up, you accept full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. You also agree that LoMAZ and our volunteer hosts are not legally or financially liable for any injury, damage, or loss that may happen during an event.

LoMAZ Away Weekend to Scotland!

Join us at the Kilmarnock Arms Hotel in Cruden Bay (near Aberdeen) for a weekend inspired by the creation of one of the most iconic characters in literature.
Once upon a time, Bram Stoker created Dracula in this very location.
Why not come and see what inspired him..?This trip to Scotland is NOT a planned excursion and guided tour. People will book their own transport and their own accommodation.
The official LoMAZ days will be:
Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th August.You can extend your time either side of this weekend if you would like to and you are free to arrive and leave whenever you want to.
NOTE: At time of writing, the hotel is fully booked for the night of Friday 11th September, but is available on the nights of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th. Alternatively, there are other accommodation options nearby.
Just west of Slains Castle, local tradition associates Cruden Bay with a supposed battle in which the Scots under King Malcolm II are said to have defeated the Danes in 1012. A traditional, but unsubstantiated, folk etymology derives the name from the Gaelic Croch Dain ('slaughter of Danes').
Today, Cruden Bay attracts tourists with its hotels and golf course. It has a long, unspoiled, beach made famous by Norwegian aviator Tryggve Gran, who made the first solo flight across the North Sea.The core of Slains castle is a 16th-century tower house, built by the 9th Earl of Erroll. The castle is mentioned in two locally set novels written by Bram Stoker, The Watter's Mou' and The Mystery of the Sea. Some also say that it provided the inspiration for Dracula.
Suggestions will be made in the event WhatsApp group of what to see and people can go and do what they would like to.
The WhatsApp group can also be used to co-ordinate and figure out best travel plans and activities.
We will not all be doing the same thing and people may want to go and do something on their own too.
GETTING THERE:
Plane: Your hosts are flying with British Airways from Heathrow to Aberdeen at 8.35am on Friday 11th September, and returning at 6.55pm on Sunday 13th September. The flight is scheduled to take 1h30min. This flight combination is currently listed on the BA website for £138.71, and is cheaper than a train from London.ACCOMMODATION:
There are various hotels, bnbs, and airbnbs to stay in while you are in Cruden Bay, so you will need to book your own accommodation in or around the town.Some accommodation sites are booking.com and airbnb.

L is for Liquid History - A guided history walk along the River Fleet

This time we shall be exploring one of London’s many lost rivers- the greatest of them all - the mighty Fleet. A prehistoric tributary, a Roman trade route, a medieval moat, an eighteenth-century eyesore and a Victorian sewer. The history of the Fleet captures both the potent symbolism and the stomach-churning reality of London’s relationship with dirt. Join us as we paddle – metaphorically – in the Fleet’s lower reaches, exploring the experiences of those who have lived and died beside it over two thousand years of urban history.

H is for The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple (Open House Weekend)
Middle Temple Hall, Middle Temple Lane, Greater London, GBJoin us at the opening of The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple as part of the Open House Festival.
Steeped in over four centuries of legal tradition, the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple is one of London's four prestigious Inns of Court. Holding the exclusive right to Call its members to the Bar, the Society supports, educates, and houses barristers throughout their legal careers.
The Middle Temple buildings we will be visiting are: Middle Temple Hall and Bench Apartments, and Middle Temple Library.

LoMAZ on Tour to Slovenia!
LJUBLJANA, TABOR 9, 1000 LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA, SILoMAZ is going on Tour in the middle of September 2026. Come and join us for a weekend break to Ljubljana, Slovenia!

This is NOT a planned excursion and guided tour. People will book their own flights and their own accommodation.
Your hosts intend to be there for a minimum of 3 days from Friday 18th September to Sunday 20th September afternoon so please aim to join us for those dates specifically the Friday & Saturday. However you can extend your time either side of this weekend if you would like to and you are free to arrive and leave whenever you want to. Your hosts may be there before or after the above dates.
The aim will be to spend 1 day in Ljubljana city and then 1 day going to visit Lake Bled.
The official LoMAZ days will be:

GETTING THERE:
Planes: There is more than one airline to get to Ljubljana, but the main options seem to be British Airways and Easyjet. A good place to start is Skyscanner.The main airport is Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (24km from City Centre). You could also fly to Zagreb Airport and catch the train from there if you are extending your stay.
Recommendation is to fly to Zagreb on Thursday 17th and travel from there to Ljubljana if prices are quite high to LJ. The hosts will be travelling from Zagreb on that day.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are various hotels, hostels and airbnbs to stay in while you are in Ljubljana, so you will need to book your own accommodation in or around the city.Some accommodation sites are booking.com and airbnb.
Hosts are staying near Ljubljana station or Mackova Ulica 1000 Ljubljana.
