About us
London Museums A-Z (LoMAZ) is a friendly, diverse, and inclusive group of people who enjoy visiting museums and exhibitions, bookended by a trip to a café and a pub. The group is for Gen X and Millennials who were born in the years 1965–1996. Our volunteer hosts run a full calendar catering to a variety of tastes and interests. If you love history, culture, exploring places, and meeting people, please come along!
How does LoMAZ work?
It's free to come along to LoMAZ events. If a museum or exhibition has an entry fee, you'll need to buy your own ticket. Each event listing will tell you whether you need to buy it in advance and provide a link.
For each event, we meet and greet in a nearby café. LoMAZ hosts will be wearing badges and there will be a LoMAZ sign on the table. We then go to the museum or exhibition, where you're free to wander around at your own pace. Afterwards, we head to a nearby pub for a chat over a drink. The café and pub socials are optional, so it’s fine if you just prefer to join us for the museum visit.
Each event listing will give you all the details, plus a link to an event WhatsApp group you can join to help you find the group on the day.
Event capacities
LoMAZ was founded to create a friendly, welcoming community. We keep our regular events small so members can make genuine connections - as well as comfortably fit into a nearby pub afterwards!
We have two types of events which have no attendee limits:
- LoMAZ Unlimited: Single-room gallery visits followed by a pub social.
- Museum Lates for Dates: Our dedicated singles nights which, unlike our regular events, are for singles only.
RSVPs and etiquette
As some of our events have attendee limits, to keep our community considerate for both members and hosts, we ask that you keep a few guidelines in mind:
- Free up your spot: If you sign up to an event but can no longer make it, please switch your RSVP to 'No' as soon as possible so another member can sign up.
- The 'no-show' policy: Members who repeatedly sign up but don't show up will unfortunately be removed from the group.
- Last-minute changes: Try to avoid a pattern of backing out of events after signing up, as that makes planning difficult and may affect your membership.
- RSVP required: Please don't show up if you are still on the waitlist or haven't RSVP'd, as we won't have space for you.
Our community values
To keep our group a welcoming place for all, we ask that everyone treats each other with kindness. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, discrimination, or disrespectful behaviour of any kind.

Please remember that everyone attends LoMAZ events at their own risk. By signing up, you accept full responsibility for your own safety and well-being. You also agree that LoMAZ and our volunteer hosts are not legally or financially liable for any injury, damage, or loss that may happen during an event.

TRAIN:
- Direct train from London Bridge (also stopping at East Croydon) to Hever Station.
- It's then a one-mile rural walk to the church and castle. (Map of walk from station to castle). As you leave the platform you will see a map on your left to guide you to Hever Castle, or you can look out for red and white wooden posts.
CAR: On-site parking is free.

LoMAZ Extra: The History of the Female Vampire (Dracula Daily)
The Blues Kitchen Brixton, 40 Acre Ln, London SW2 5SP, UK, London, GBThe female vampire is a monster and a seductress, desirable and deadly, all at once. She represents our fears about uncontrollable female desire, giving us a way to explore forbidden sexuality and challenge what society expects women to be.
In this talk, we'll trace her history – from ancient demons like Lilith and the real-life Hungarian countess Elizabeth Bathory, to her most famous appearances in classic novels like Carmilla and Dracula. More recently, feminist and queer writers have transformed the female vampire into a symbol of freedom and female desire. Modern novels like Kirsten White's Lucy Undying and S.T. Gibson's A Dowry of Blood rewrite her story to show her power to liberate, not just terrify. Come and discover what makes the female vampire so endlessly fascinating.
Doors open at 8pm, talk starts at 8:15pm - come down early to grab a good seat!

Dr Sarah Gamble is Associate Professor in English Literature at Swansea University. She’s a specialist in contemporary Gothic fiction and women’s writing, and has a particular expertise in the life and work of Angela Carter, on whom she’s written two monographs: Angela Carter: Writing from the Front Line (Edinburgh University Press,1997), and Angela Carter: A Literary Life (Palgrave Macmillan, 2006). Most recently, she has co-edited (with Anna Watz of Uppsala University, Sweden) a two-volume collection of academic essays on Carter – Angela Carter’s Pasts: Allegories and Intertextualities, and Angela Carter’s Futures: Representations, Adaptations and Legacies (Bloomsbury, 2025). LoMAZ on Tour to Transylvania!

There was one great tomb more lordly than all the rest; huge it was, and nobly proportioned. On it was but one word
DRACULA. This then was the Un-Dead home of the King-Vampire.This trip to Cluj is NOT a planned excursion and guided tour. People will book their own flights and their own accommodation.
The official LoMAZ days will be:
Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th November.Your hosts will be there for an extended weekend. On Saturday we will explore Cluj and on the Sunday we will be doing a Dracula's Castle and Birthplace Daytour.
You must book your tour with operator direct. See the Daytour section.
You can extend your time either side of this weekend if you would like to and you are free to arrive and leave whenever you want to.
Suggestions will be made in the event WhatsApp group of what to see and people can go and do what they would like to. The WhatsApp group can also be used to co-ordinate and figure out best travel plans.
We will not all be doing the same thing and people may want to go and do something on their own too.
GETTING THERE:
Planes: There is more than one airline to get to Cluj-Napoca. A good place to start is Skyscanner.Hosts have booked to travel on these outward flights:
London Stansted (STN) to to Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) with Ryanair on 06/11/2026, departing at 05:55 and arriving at 10:45.
London Luton (LTN) to Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) with Wizzair on 06/11/2026, departing at 08:10 and arriving at 13:05.
The main airport is Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport (IATA code: CLJ). It is about 5.6 miles (9 km) east of the city centre.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are various hotels, hostels and airbnbs to stay in while you are in Cluj, so you will need to book your own accommodation in or around the city. Two of the hosts are staying in the old town.Some accommodation sites are booking.com and airbnb.

SUNDAY DAYTOUR:
You must book your tour yourself. LoMAZ have no connections to the company running the tour and your agreement will be with the tour operator. But Trinity actually takes care of seafarers more widely. This tour is of their main building in London - a rare entrance. A tour open to the public so if you are keen - please join the event , not only here on meetup, but at the venue to reserve your space (following their instructions below).
Join us at the Grade 1 listed building at Trinity House London for this unique opportunity for a guided tour and refreshments in a building featured in Country Life and gutted by a German bomb - since been rebuilt!
This building was built in the years 1794-96 by Samuel Wyatt, Surveyor to the Corporation and brother of the famous James; Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger laid the foundation stone 12 September 1793, and the first Court inside the new building was on 23 May 1796.
It was gutted in 1940 when a German incendiary bomb lodged in the roof of the stairwell, leaving nothing of the original building save the Trinity Square façade. Professor (later Sir) Albert E Richardson undertook the reconstruction of the house by using a number of photographs of the rooms, taken by Country Life magazine in 1919, to reconstitute almost exactly the interior in its original form.
Trinity House, which is Grade I listed, was refurbished and redecorated in March 1990; the redecoration is, where possible, in keeping with the 1790s period when the house was originally built.Read more here

Discover what author Charles Dickens got right about Victorian crime, poverty and the workhouse, and how dangerous London really was.
Dickens portrayed a world of pickpockets, thieves, and child exploitation - with fictional characters such as Oliver Twist, Fagin, Bill Sikes and the Artful Dodger. Crime features heavily in his novel Oliver Twist with offences ranging from pickpocketing, burglary, and handling stolen goods, to violent assault and murder. But how accurate was this picture of Victorian crime?Patrick Voss explores the real conditions behind the fiction, including the workhouse system, urban poverty, and the pressures of life in the largest city in the world. This talk will reveal how dangerous it was in Victorian London and why Dickens wrote so urgently about it.
