About us
LoMAZ is a friendly, diverse and inclusive group of people who enjoy visiting museums, bookended by a trip to a café and a pub. The group is for Gen X and Millennials who were born in the years 1965-1996. If you like history, exploring places and meeting people, please come along.
Our events are run by a group of volunteers who maintain a full calendar catering to a wide range of tastes and interest.
How does LoMAZ work?
It's free to come along to LoMAZ events. If a museum/exhibition has an entry fee, you'll need to buy your own ticket. Each event will tell you whether you need to buy it in advance and provide a link.
For each event, we meet in a nearby café 30 minutes earlier. We then go to the museum/exhibition, where you are free to wander around at your own pace. Afterwards, we head to a nearby pub for a social chit-chat. The café and pub social are optional, so it’s fine if you just prefer to join us for the museum visit.
Each event listing will give you all the details, plus an event WhatsApp group you can join to help you find the group.
Event attendee limit:
Our regular LoMAZ events have an attendee limit per event because we prefer a smaller, friendlier group where members can get to know each other.
Our 'Lates for Dates' events don't have an attendee limit, and - unlike our other events - are for singles only.
Group etiquette:
If you RSVP but can no longer attend, please change your RSVP as soon as possible, otherwise you will be marked as a 'no show'.
We remove members from the group who:
- repeatedly sign up for events then 'no show'.
- repeatedly change their RSVP to 'No'.
- are on the event waitlist or have not RSVPd but turn up anyway.
Responsibility disclaimer:
By signing up to an event you acknowledge that you are attending at your own risk and accept full responsibility for anything that may happen to you. You will not hold responsible, nor pursue any legal, injury or financial compensation claim against LoMAZ or the host for anything that may happen to you during the event.
Our group is committed to creating a respectful and safe inclusive environment for all members. Any form of discrimination, harassment, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.
Best wishes,
The Admin Team

Mina Murray's Journal, 11th August:
For a moment or two I could see nothing, as the shadow of a cloud obscured St. Mary's Church and all around it. Then as the cloud passed I could see the ruins of the abbey coming into view, and as the edge of a narrow band of light as sharp as a sword-cut moved along, the church and churchyard became gradually visible.
This trip to Whitby is NOT a planned excursion and guided tour. People will book their own transport and their own accommodation.
The official LoMAZ days will be:
Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th August. You can extend your time either side of this weekend if you would like to and you are free to arrive and leave whenever you want to.
Suggestions will be made in the event WhatsApp group of what to see and people can go and do what they would like to.
Whitby Abbey is a key landmark and more about Whitby and Dracula can be read here:
https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/whitby-abbey/history-and-stories/dracula/
The WhatsApp group can also be used to co-ordinate and figure out best travel plans and activities.
We will not all be doing the same thing and people may want to go and do something on their own too.

LoMAZ Away Day: A Day Trip to Cardiff
Cardiff Castle, Castle Street, Cardiff, Wales, GBJoin us for a day trip to the Welsh capital, Cardiff, and explore the history, museums and culture of Cardiff.
We will visit Cardiff Castle, which stands at the very centre of Wales' capital, a historic fortress set within green parkland, surrounded by shops, cafés and city streets. Few castles in the world sit so closely alongside modern urban life, making Cardiff Castle one of the most distinctive visitor attractions in the UK.
With nearly 2,000 years of history contained within its walls, the castle offers a unique introduction to Cardiff itself. From Roman defences and medieval towers to lavish Victorian interiors, every era has left its mark on this remarkable site.

V for Van Gogh House London
Vincent Van Gogh House, 87 Hackford Road London SW9 0RE, London, GBJoin us at the Van Gogh House London for a guided tour at 3.30pm of the residence of a young Van Gogh from 1873-4.
87 Hackford Road is a Grade II listed building that has been renovated and conserved by the Wang family.
Built in the 1820s, by 2012 the property had fallen into a state of disrepair. Bordering on dereliction, the building was purchased at auction by James Wang and Alice Childs, who saw the potential to bring this cultural landmark back to life.
Conservation works took place over the next 7 years, guided by an ambition to save as much existing material as possible, and making sensitive repairs where necessary. It was important for the house to remain first and foremost a dwelling – and not a museum, allowing it to remain in practical use as a home as well as a venue for artist residencies and exhibitions. Read more about the renovation project by following the links below.MEET DETAILS:

LoMAZ Extra @ The Proms
Royal Albert Hall, Kennisington Gore, London, GB"Mozart is happiness before it has gotten defined." - Arthur Miller
“Forgive me, Majesty. I am a vulgar man! But I assure you, my music is not.” - Mozart
Join us 23 August at the Royal Albert Hall for a special LoMAZ trip to see Mozart’s “Haffner” Symphony at the BBC 2026 Proms...
The Academy of St Martin in the Fields spotlights the French horn and bassoon in two concertos: one classic, one contemporary. The ink is still wet on veteran Scottish composer Thea Musgrave’s new Bassoon Concerto, ‘Out of the Darkness’, receiving its world premiere. Mozart’s good-natured Horn Concerto No. 3 ends with a rollicking Allegro that’s hard to resist. There are more dancing rhythms from Britten’s playful Simple Symphony – based on themes written by the composer before the age of 12.
