Christmas Carol Concert by Candlelight @ St. Stephen Walbrook Church!
Details
Come along on Wednesday 17th December for a Candlelight Christmas Carol Concert at the church of St. Stephen Walbrook in the City of London!
About the church
The church of St. Stephen Walbrook was Sir Christopher Wren's parish church, he lived about 100 metres away. Wren rebuilt the church after its medieval predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. It opened in 1687 with a dome, which was used as a prototype for the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral, which he started building a few years later.
The church was also where The Samaritans charity was started in 1953 by vicar Chad Varah using just one phone (which you can see in the church today). It also has a centre altar sculpture designed by Henry Moore. Centre altars are very unusual in English churches.
The concert will last about 1 hour. It includes many well known carols and takes place around the centre altar.
Cost
The carol concert is free!
Afterwards
After the concert stick around, as they offer free mulled wine and minced pies in the church.
If you arrive later than 5:45pm, come into the church and find a seat and lookout for the group at the end. The concert starts at 6pm.
Lookout for the red & blue 'London Cultureseekers' group sign outside the church.
Look forward to seeing you there.
