Narrators and Narrative Voice Masterclass w/ writer and tutor Emma Darwin

Details
Back by popular demand, award-winning author and highly respected creative writing tutor, Emma Darwin, will give us a practical workshop on 'Narrators': who they are, how they work, how to make the most of yours, and what might happen if you changed to a different one.
One of the most important questions you can ask of your fiction or creative non-fiction is “Who is telling this story?” And even if your narrator is one of your characters - or you don’t think you’re using a narrator at all - digging into the answer has profound implications for point-of-view, voice, and even structure. Your choices about narrators, in other words, can make all the difference to creating a compelling story.
You should leave having tried your hands at a few new narrative tools and possibilities, and with a clearer sense of how to make the most of your narrator, whatever or whoever you choose to work with.
An award-winning writer, Emma Darwin's new book, This is Not a Book About Charles Darwin, was described as “a fascinating journey…a masterclass”. Her debut novel, The Mathematics of Love, is possibly the only novel ever nominated for both the Commonwealth Writers Best First Book, and Romantic Novelists’ Association Novel of the Year; her second novel A Secret Alchemy, was a Sunday Times bestseller as well as forming the major part of her PhD in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths.
Emma’s fantastic blog This Itch of Writing gave rise to Get Started in Writing Historical Fiction; described as “essential reading”. She has taught for the Open University, mentors and tutors individual writers, and is a regular guest lecturer and speaker at university creative writing departments and writers’ conferences.
