The Friendly Infidels Movie Club: Bugonia

Come see the film Bugonia with your non-religious friends from the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry (SHL)! We are going to the 3:20 pm showing at the Citadel Stadium 16 theater in West Ashley.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, Bugonia is a darkly comic sci-fi thriller about two conspiracy-obsessed men who believe that a high-powered pharmaceutical CEO is secretly an alien bent on destroying Earth. With bees, corporate greed, alien myth, and ecological collapse woven into its surreal storyline, the film gleefully distorts the absurdities of our culture of mistrust and the intertwining of power and paranoia. If you’re interested in films that provoke questions about belief, power, and identity–and don’t mind a wild ride–join us at this showing of Bugonia.

After the movie those who wish will be going to dinner at Ginza Japanese Grill located across from the mall, right next to Monster Music at 946 Orleans Rd in West Ashley for drinks, food and to discuss the film. If you don't want to attend the showing, feel free to join us to discuss the film afterwards. We should get there around 5:30 pm, depending on the number of commercials and previews. If you want to reach out to me ahead of time, I'd be happy to text you when we leave the theater. Please just let me know so I can try to get a big enough table.

Movie Selection:
The SHL Movie club normally meets on the first Sunday of the month. Films are usually chosen by a ranked choice vote. An email with the voting link is sent to the movie club mailing list about 10 days before the film. If you are not on the movie club mailing list, but would like to vote on future film selections email shl@lowcountryhumanists.org and ask to be added to the list.
