Join me for a relaxed walk exploring the stunning landscape of Pirrita Island Nature Reserve at the northern end of the Swansea peninsula. Together we’ll be able to enjoy an easygoing walk and chat with friends as we follow along the edge of the turquoise waters of Swansea Channel and then on through the lakeside mangroves.

The highlight of the walk is the 250-metre boardwalk that crosses the Pirrita Island marshlands. Illustrated signs along the way tell the stories of the 'Pirrita' oysters prized by the Awabakal people, the coal mining families who lived at Miners Point throughout the 1900s as well as the rich natural history of local flora and fauna. It’s an ideal outing for nature photography and spotting the many waterbirds.

On the return we’ll take time to relax and socialise with new and old friends, and enjoy a coffee at the Channel Café overlooking the water and the Swansea Bridge.

This is a family friendly event. We’ll go ahead whether its sunny or raining.

Agenda
I’ll meet you at 9.00am in the main public carpark on Dobinson Drive , near the Thomas Humphries boat ramp.

We’ll set out at 9.15am and follow the walking path all the way to the viewing platform at Miners Point (Pirrita island). We can enjoy the lake vistas and several indigenous artworks, and from there continue on the boardwalk section across the marshlands on the western shore of the peninsula.

We’ll then return along the bushland track that runs past the Lakeside Holiday Park to the start point at the carpark. The walk is on fairly even flat surfaces all the way and is less than 2.0 km in total.

From the carpark we’ll drive a short way to meet at the Channel Cafe at Shop 3/2 in Belmont Street and enjoy time for conversation with a coffee or something to eat.
