What we're about

Hiking club connecting you with the great Australian outdoors for fitness, fun and friendship. Come explore with us and feed your spirit of adventure.

We are easily found on the ground floor of the The Mission to Seafarers Victoria building at 717 Flinders Street, Docklands (Melway 2E, 8J). The clubrooms are open on Wednesday evenings between 6:30pm and 8:30pm.

We offer a full program of hiking and walking activities throughout the year, ranging from day-walks to multi-day hiking and camping trips, with lots of options in between. A unique feature of our Sunday day-walks is the bus we provide. Sit back and relax in comfort traveling to and from your walk. (Day Walks by Bus with Melbourne Bushwalkers (https://mbw.org.au/mbw_activities/walks/MBW_bus_walks.php))

This Meetup is a door to some of our activities, selected walks and events which we think would appeal to beginning walkers as well as those more experienced. To participate in advertised walks as a visitor you must come to our club rooms to talk with the leaders about the walk and your bushwalking experience. A simple RSVP lets us know of your interest but does not add your name to the booking list. (Members of the club can book online.) To view our full program visit our online program of activities (https://mbw.org.au/mbw_activities/MBW_activities_program.php).

Sunday Bus: Murrindindi Cascades - Wilhelmina Falls - 12km & 16km - Sun 05 Feb

Melbourne Bushwalkers - Bus departure

The Murrindindi Scenic Reserve comprises 1,068 hectares of mixed species Eucalypt forest, which includes waterfalls, tree fern gullies and an abundance of birds and mammals. The shorter walk, commencing at the Cascades Picnic Ground, will follow the Murrindindi River Walk, a gentle walk downstream hugging the banks of the Murrindindi River along the length of the Murrindindi Reserve. The forest is varied, and there are numerous historic relics of the timber industry along the way. Murrindindi means “Mountain Home” in the Wurundjeri language, and well describes this tranquil river valley. There will be an optional “steepish” side trip to the base of Wilhelmina Falls which adds about 3km to the Easy walk. The longer walk will commence at the same point and follow the same track as the Easy group until the Boroondarah Track is reached. The Boroondarah Track is then followed to the top of Wilhelmina Falls, with a LONG STEEP HILL. Walkers who chose to do the longer walk will be rewarded with some great views over the reserve. Both groups will end their walks crossing the suspension bridge at the Suspension Bridge Carpark/Camping Ground. This bridge is one of the several bridges that are crossed in the course of the walks. As the weather could be hot be sure to carry plenty of water.

The costs for the walk are $25 bus fare plus $10 visitor fee if you are not a paid-up Member of Melbourne Bushwalkers.
