The Art of Photography Miami (Field Workshops)

SPECIAL DOCUMENTARY OPPORTUNITY... ONE OF A KIND PHOTOWALK EVENT TO DOWNTOWN MIAMI, A PHOTOSHOOT DOCUMENTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF MIAMI’S FUTURE AND ICONIC "SUSPENDED BRIDGE" CONNECTING MIAMI WITH MIAMI BEACH, AKA: THE FOUNTAIN

DOWNTOWN MIAMI IS AN URBAN / METROPOLITAN CENTER THAT'S CHANGING DAILY – The magnificent construction (IN-PROGRESS NOW) of this unique bridge designed -and being built, to become THE SIGNATURE ARCHITECTURAL ICON for Miami. Our photowalks outing is intended to be a historic documentary (journalistic) event to capture various phases of construction. TO CAPTURE VISUAL IMAGES AS IT STANDS TODAY. You're welcome to join our group and be ready to practice specifics of street, architecture, and documentary photography during this photowalk / workshop event... You'll be able to identify photo opportunities, adapt to the best (available) light + field conditions (positive and negative) and anticipate the “decisive moment” around the transformation currently happening in Downtown Miami.

We’ll meet at the History Miami Museum / Library courtyard and from the Government Center catch a FREE ride in the Metromover to the Museum Park Station in Biscayne Blvd. From there we’ll circle the construction area from various points of view, looking for the best possible images and compositions. Afterwards, we’ll walk along Biscayne Blvd to capture some iconic architectural views, such as The Freedom Tower (Old Miami News), the One Thousand Museum (building designed by Zaha Hadid Architects), the Adrianne Arsht Center (portions of old Sears store corner stairway), then return to our starting point via the Metromover.

The workshop leader / instructor (Rafael) taught photography classes at all levels and has personally led 100+ field photography outings for over 15 years in Broward and Miami-Dade counties and will be available all along this shoot for specific tips, technical consultation, historic facts, and photography information to capture better images and make this a memorable learning experience - This workshop is a “One-of-a-Kind” technically supported photoshoot with attention to practical learning for which there is a $10 fee.

CHANGE AGENTS in PHOTOGRAPHY
Join us on March 25 at 7pm to see what happens when two women drift together in creative orbit.

Toby Berman and Lynne Mass met each other through this meetup, discovering that they had lived parallel lives both being driven by an intense desire to be creative and to be lifelong learners.

“We found that PEOPLE were dominant in our professional careers. As we talked, we learned that we also had similarity of personal artistic and intellectual values. We both wanted to alter and innovate our photo processes as we had innovated during our professional lives. We started working together thinking about photography differently. We realized we were becoming agents of change.

Two thoughts dominate everything we do - PLAY and TRIAL & ERROR. For each of us, we see complacency as the enemy of creativity, and Creative Disequilibrium (letting ideas simmer subconsciously) as the engine of creativity. Constant education is the catalyst to making the next photograph our best. It is important to note that we are not using artificial intelligence to create any images.

In brainstorming for this presentation, we identified overlapping categories that contained the following:

1. Playing with light and playing with shadows
2. Unusual textures
3. Composites
4. Using software special features
5. Silhouettes
6. Blurs
7. Double exposures
8. Different lenses and different lens techniques - fisheye, prism, saran wrap, etc.

We both use minimal equipment - a mirrorless camera, an iPhone and a few lenses.

Sit back and see what evolved from Lynne’s and Toby’s artistic collision. The final demos are examples that demonstrate the frequently asked questions, “How did you do that? Can you show me?” as Toby and Lynne each show how a finished work got from camera clicks to a final creative image.
