This hike uses fire roads and shoreline paths in a series of loops to explore a section of Liberty Reservoir in Carroll County.

Expect 6 miles at a pace of about 2.5 mph with 400 ft of elevation gain. There are two stream crossings that we will cross twice. There will be an optional 2 mile loop at the end which takes us out on a peninsula that is sometimes an unreachable island when the reservoir is higher.

Bring water, poles for the stream crossings if you’d like, and lunch or a snack to eat along the way.

Meet at the Liberty Boat Dock service road which is just north of the house at 6256 Oakland Mills Rd in Eldersburg. Immediately upon turning on to the boat dock road, park along the shoulder on the north side of the road. GPS: 39.402463, -76.896591
