About us
This Meetup group is operated by the Mountain Club of Maryland (MCM), a nonprofit outdoors club that engages in hiking, backpacking, canoeing/kayaking, and similar outdoor activities. We are centered in the Baltimore metropolitan area, but we hike throughout Maryland and in nearby states. Membership in MCM is open to all who enjoy being outdoors with a group. For a small annual membership fee, our members have access to more than 300 hikes a year offered by our volunteer hike leaders. To join, or to learn more about MCM, go to Mountain Club Of Maryland. Meetup hike leaders schedule weekly Meetup hikes. Be sure to sign up because they fill quickly.
Members of the Mountain Club of Maryland lead hikes every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Other Club activities include backpacking, camping, canoe/kayak trips and trail work. Founded in 1934 to help build the Appalachian Trail, the Club is currently one of 31 clubs that maintain the AT for all to enjoy. Members also support trail work in Patapsco Valley State Park. The Mountain Club schedules hikes of different distances and difficulty and we publish a schedule of hikes for 4 months at a time. Check out our upcoming hikes.
When you attend an MCM Meetup event, you acknowledge that there are inherent risks in hiking and other outdoor events, and you assume those risks, and agree that the MCM, its officers, representatives or leaders shall not be liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising out of the activities of the club.

Modified Rockhaven Hike
Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Westchester Ave, Catonsville, MD, USThis is a modification of a hike we did a few weeks ago. It will be about a mile shorter with 250' less climb than the earlier version. Don't be fooled by the metrics as there are very rocky and rooty sections that make this hike harder than it looks. We'll aim for a walking speed of 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 mph.
Poles and sturdy boots are highly recommended for the rocky/rooty sections. Be prepared for mud.
We'll be meeting at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Catonsville: 2100 Westchester Avenue, 39.2804, -76.7774. Park behind the church. There's no fee where we'll be parking.
Please don't sign up for this hike unless you have recently completed a hike of at least this level of difficulty. Our mother club (see mcomd.org) offers multiple hikes of varying difficulty (easy to very strenuous) each week that may better fit your needs.
We'll have a snack/water break mid-hike. If there's interest, we can have an optional lunch in Historic Ellicott City or an optional brown bag lunch at the cars after the hike.
By registering for this hike, you agree to the following waiver of liability:
