Woodstock area hike T*U*E*S*D*A*Y - Five Miles with 500" gain
Details
This is a 5-mile lollipop hike with about 500' of elevation gain. We'll be on the south side of the river between Woodstock, from where we'll step off, heading downstream along the river and through a wooded area toward Daniels. (which, BTW, will be removed in the next few years), before looping back upstream along the river to Woodstock.
We'll aim for a walking speed of 2.0 to 2.5 mph. There are some (usually modest) stream crossings. We'll be using some trails new to us (that we looked for last time but couldn't find) so be prepared for some glitches. Some areas may be grassy so long trousers, sleeves and tick spray are recommended.
We'll have at least one snack break during the hike with an optional brown bag post-hike lunch or, optionally, half-price cheesesteak sandwiches and half-price selected beers at the Woodstock Inn.
The current forecast is for sunny skies and a high in the upper 60's - perfect for a refreshing jaunt through the woods.
Be prepared for rocky and rooty trails and copious mud. Sturdy waterproof hiking boots are HIGHLY recommended for the new trail section as it's quite rocky particularly at the beginning/end.
Please don't sign up for this hike if you haven't completed a hike of at least this level of difficulty recently. The Mountain Club offers several hikes of varying difficulty (easy to strenuous) on Wednesdays and weekends every week if you're looking for an easier or more demanding hike. Check out their website at MCOMD.org.
If there's a wait list and vacancies occur, people will be selected from the waitlist based on their past history with the Club. No-shows and last-minute cancellations are frowned upon since they prevent attendance by those on the wait list.
