Bale Grist Mill History Trail
Details
PLEASE READ ALL DETAILS FOR ARRIVAL & PARKING INFO 🅿️
If coming up 29 from Napa, drive past the first Bothe sign on your left until you see the second big brown sign for Bothe State Park at the main park entrance.
Google Maps and Apple Maps will now take you to the right address.
Once you enter the park, drive past the Visitor Center and keep driving until you reach the pool and bathrooms. You’ll see the pool on your left and the bathrooms on your right. DO NOT PARK AT THE VISITOR CENTER unless you want a 1 mile plus warm up hike to the trailhead. 😆
Set out on this enchanting hike and discover a path where nature and history intertwine. Step into Napa’s pioneer era as you wander beneath shaded canopies, trace the footsteps of early settlers, and stand by a living piece of engineering history in action. It’s a surprisingly rich journey—past the mill, through memory, and amidst the redwoods. This moderate hike provides an overview of Napa Valley's pioneer history. The hike starts at the cemetery where much of the Donner Party is buried and ends at the Bale Grist Mill.
