In this session, we’ll dive into the critical role technology plays in modern elections, focusing on one of the biggest challenges we face: the spread of misinformation and disinformation. How can you tell what’s real and what’s not online?

As part of the Vi bestemmer selv - valgfestival @ Demokrati Garage, we're hosting a session to answer these questions.

We are thrilled to be joined by Sarah Hartley, a media analyst and researcher who has spent her career tracking down information online and sorting fact from fiction. She has worked as an analyst at BBC Monitoring, where she focused on Russian media trends and disinformation campaigns, and most recently led a team scouring the internet for reports on weapons diversion for The HALO Trust.

Sarah will pull back the curtain on her work, sharing crucial lessons from the front lines of the information wars, including insights from her analysis of Russian disinformation tactics.

But this isn't just a lecture—it's a workout! After hearing from Sarah, we will:

  • Get Equipped: Introduce concrete, simple actions we can all take to protect ourselves and our communities from disinformation.
  • Get Fit: Engage in "democracy fitness" exercises, led by Kathrine Krone, co-founder of Demokrati Fitness, designed to help us practice our critical thinking skills and build resilience.

This is your chance to move from theory to practice, ask an expert your burning questions, and leave with tools you can use immediately.
Come build your democratic muscles and learn to navigate the information age with confidence.

After the formal session, we'll head over to Hal 3 to continue the discussion in a more informal setting.

We hope to see you there!

Best,
