Fun, Fitness, Friendship! The Northern Virginia Walking Club (Volksmarchers) is one of the leading volksport clubs in the US! A volksmarch is a leisurely walk through a scenic or historic area over a pre-marked trail, often using a trail description or map. The walk is non-competitive and participants travel at their own pace, making it an excellent recreational activity for the entire family. Join one of our three types of activities: 1. Traditional Walks with pre-marked trails (walk DIY during a window). 2. Year-Round or Seasonal Events, which are self-guided or DIY 3. Guided Group Walks. To defray expenses, request non-members and guests pay $2. Club members pay $4 for AVA walk-credit. Please bring correct change in cash. We featured curated walks led by experienced members. Annual dues are $10. Attendees under 18 must have a guardian with them. This hobby is world-wide, so try us if you like to travel! Walk along the scenic Potomac River Waterfront, Old Town Alexandria and several parks. The 6km trail is a guided group walk. Trails featured are 6 or 10 km (3.7 or 6.2 miles). Both have limited elevation gain. The trails cross a half-mile pedestrian bridge over Great Hunting Creek. 10 km walkers will also see the memorial in the Contrabands and Freedman Cemetery, the burial place for 1,800 African Americans who fled to Alexandria during the Civil War.
The walk is $2 for guests to defray expenses for our sport and $4 for AVA walk credit. Please bring correct change in cash (we can't do e-payment). We featured curated walks led by experienced members. Dogs and children are welcome but those under 18 must have a guardian present. Arrive by 9:45 am to register so we can leave by 10:00 am. A guided group walk around scenic Lake Accotink and Park in Springfield. See the forest with fall colors! Trail is 5 km (3.1 miles) and goes around the Lake and thru a subdivision. It has some elevation gain.

Meet at the park entrance and parking lot at 5660 Heming Avenue, Springfield VA 22150 by 9:45 am to register, so we can leave promptly by 10 am. IMPORTANT: There are two park entrances, so use the one at 5660 Heming Avenue! Look for walk host Steve Brown standing by his car.
