SPECIAL TALK AT HUMANIST HOUSE: NOBEL SCIENTISTS GOING ROGUE!
Please come along 3-5pm on Sunday 28 September 2025 to NSW Humanists Meetup's special extra talk on Scientists who achieve the ultimate accolade of a Nobel Prize for their work, but then later get caught up in dubious claims and cures in areas beyond their specialisation. The speaker is Ian Bryce.
It is unfortunate when Nobel Prizewinners or other prominent scientists lend their prestige to popular campaigns in areas outside of their real expertise. The tricks and traps of dodgy science often go over the heads of enthusiasts and panickers, and some real scientists don't help.
Everyone is entitled to their point of view but elite researchers need to proceed with caution and have an ethical duty to be clear on what is and what isn't real science. Problems can involve climate issues, dubious cures, pseudoscience, and various other oddities.
