Description:
Here is a less intense winter hike that will have us gallivanting through some nice neighborhoods. This journey will take us through Laurel Hill West Cemetery and over to Narberth for some tasty treats and hot beverages! The Laurel Hill cemetery is beautiful....:) Once we exit LHW, we will make our way through some Mainline streets to reach Narberth. For those not familiar, Narberth is a quaint community in Lower Merion township. Once in Narberth we will have a planned stop of about 20 minutes on the main strip in which you can take in the sites or visit the Little Blue Owl bakery to "fuel up" for our return trip back.
This hike is a great chance to socialize while getting some exercise and seeing some interesting sites along the way. Please keep the following in mind to make this an enjoyable day for all: although less intense then my usual hikes, note we do keep a good pace (see above) in order to cover the distance in a timely fashion. And we keep moving except for planned stops, which there are a couple on this hike. If you struggle to keep up with the main pack, you will need to find your way back to car. I say that nicely and to avoid any issues day of event.
GEAR REQUIRED:
1- Proper footwear- good pair of sneakers or walking shoes. Hiking boots not recommended as we will be on all streets an sidewalks.
2- WATER or other source of hydration; food/snacks and electrolyes as needed
PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION: We will meet in the parking area between the Residence Inn Philadelphia Bala Cynwyd and AFC fitness center. This lot, according to Google, is dedicated to trail users. When you come down Righters Ferry Rd and pass under the tunnel, turn right. Lot will be on the left immediately before the parking area for AFC fitness center. See Meetup PIN for exact spot. Note that Google's satellite view shows lot perfectly, but street view does not (older version when building was under construction). READ SIGNS AND DO NOT PARK IN DEDICATED AFC SPOTS.
