Outdoor Adventure Friends

This is an ADVANCED hike due to elevation and pace.

Please join me for a fast paced workout hike at Valley Forge Park. The goal is to get 6-7 miles with 1200+ feet of elevation maintaining a 3.5+ mph pace with little to no stops. 5:30 PM sharp start!

**MEET AT 6:00pm with 6:15 SHARP departure**

This weeks night hike will take us to the Upper Wissahickon and by some of the treasures making this area so special. B.A. L simply stands for Big A$$ Loop as we will be covering 7 miles with roughly 1,000 feet of elevation. Plan to move at about 3.2- 3.5mph with very few stops.

Gear required: hiking footwear as there will be plenty of rocks and roots Food and water as needed. Headlamp if you are worried about any darkness near end of hike.

Light rain or shine event. Heavy rain or storms will cancel.

PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION: We will meet at the corner of Brierdale Rd and Cathedral Rd, side closest to the shopping center parking lot (see Meetup location Pin). There is parking on plenty of parking on Cathedral Rd.

6:15pm SHARP starting time!

This weeks "weekly night hike" will take us back to the Cresheim Valley section that many enjoyed the last time we hiked here. We will be moving quickly to accomplish our goal of 6.5+ miles about 800 feet of elevation. Average pace expected about 3.2-3.5 mph.

We do our best to stick together and look out for one another. But if you are struggling, you may need to find your way back to car. Best to have a buddy if you are unsure.

PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION: We will meet at the corner of W Willow Grove Ave and Cherokee Streets.....very close to Wissahickon Skating Club (see Meetup location Pin). There is parking on W Willow Grove and some other surrounding streets. Please allow time to park and get to meeting location.

**MEET AT 6:00pm with 6:15 SHARP departure**

Because of the popularity of this event, I will try to schedule it about every 4-5 weeks. For those that know, no description needed.

For the new folks looking for some leg and lung punishment (lol), this is a more fitness oriented urban hike to keep up/build your hiking conditioning. We will conquer several steep stair cases and hills throughout the evening, including the famous Manayunk Wall.

Please keep the following in mind:

1. this will be more on the intense side and very little stopping along the way. Not for beginners. This IS a YOU MIGHT GET DROPPED TYPE OF HIKE. However, there are several bail out spots if you are on the fence and want to get out of your comfort zone. Not all hikes offer this ability...."IF IT DOESN'T CHALLENGE YOU, IT DOESN'T CHANGE YOU"
2. pace is about 3.2-3.5 on flats and little slower on steps. We move quickly, but do adjust a "little" as needed based upon number of attendees.
3. not worrying about distance, just time. We will be done hiking about 8:30.
4. For those wishing to do so, we will be heading to PHS Cocktail garden in Manayunk ( 106 Jamestown Ave) after the hike. Cool pop up beer/cocktail garden with plenty of room.

Gear required: Sneakers are ok for this hike. All streets, sidewalks and staircases.

Parking: we will meet in the Cadence Cycling parking lot located at 3740 Main St. in Manayunk. However, DO NOT PARK NEAR THE MOVIE THEATER OR CADENCE CYCLING. There are towing signs there. Please park at the opposite end closer to Pencoyd Bridge. There are no signs in this area and I have been on several hikes from this location with no problem. There is also public transportation available. The septa regional rail Wissahickon train station is one staircase away from this lot.
