The 11km loop follows old narrow-gauge tramlines and aqueducts that were part of Victoria's first hydroelectric scheme, which began operating in 1929. The area was also historically significant for its timber industry.
It winds through beautiful, lush Mountain Ash forests and cool temperate rainforests, featuring towering trees and fern-filled gullies.
Highlights include
Rubicon Dam: A small, historic dam at the end of the tramline track.
Trestle Bridges: You will pass several historic timber trestle bridges, including the rebuilt Beech Creek Trestle and the Lubra Creek Trestle.
Aqueducts and Power Stations: You walk alongside parts of the open aqueduct system that still carries water to the operating power stations
LUNCH
We will have lunch at the Rubicon Hotel after the hike
