Seasonal Yorkshire Dales Xmas Walking and Social Weekend 2025

Our final weekend away of the year is always as much about celebrating as it is about walking and this is a fantastic venue to do both of those. To be honest, we have never found it up for exclusive hire before so are thrilled to have the chance to enjoy our December 2025 break there.

Although it looks a bit like a castle, the magnificent building which now houses Grinton Lodge Youth Hostel was originally built in the 19th century as the centre of a large shooting estate and was used as such under various ownerships until 1946 when is was given to the YHA.

The quantity of nearby walking routes is amazing situated as it is between the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors, close to the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Route and in the heart of Herriotts way which we expect to make much use of during the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday we shall offer at least two walks on each day to satisfy those with inclinations for an easy pace and high degree of sociability as well as something tougher for our regulars who like it that way! There will of course be a bonus walk Friday for those available for an 11am start and general arrival will be 6pm +

All food is included throughout the weekend and vegetarians and other special dietary requirements will be catered for.

This is intended to be a sociable event all weekend so expect a bit of party music both nights and if you play a musical instrument or can provide some other entertainment for us feel free.

Help yourself breakfasts and packed lunches are provided as is hot and cold party food Saturday night but please bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.

The cost for any final / cancellation places will now need to be paid in full when you book at £124 PLUS Meetup booking fees if booking via Meetup or without booking fees if paying via BACS and letting us know at the same time.

Our bank don't immediately tell us who payments are from so if you can put in the reference your name and the name of the event that will be a huge help in reconciling payments quickly e.g. ConwayGrinton !

If you have to cancel with more than 28 clear days notice the full balance payment will be refunded i.e. £89 but NOT the deposit value paid or £35 whichever is less. No refunds will be provided to those cancelling with less than 28 clear days notice. ("clear" means does not include event start date or cancellation date!

It would not be possible to provide the range of events we do or to cover the cost of insurance and now increasing Meetup fees if we were not a subscription based group which means paying an annual subscription of £10pa or a Life Membership subscription in which case further payments are not necessary.

If attending our weekends away as an unpaid or lapsed subscriber or as a non member guest you are required to pay an additional £10 when balances become due. This applies to all events starting on or after 1st January 2025
