Opening Photography Exhibition Clément Extier @ Alliance Francaise

Details
It's the opening night of Clement Extier, the French photographer and academic's new exhibition, Isolation, on the patio of the Alliance Francaise premises in Nedlands.
"Shot on medium format 6×6 film cameras, Isolation explores the quiet tension between presence and detachment. Each square frame captures individuals suspended in their own moment, visually separated from their surroundings. This act of isolating subjects within the urban landscape reflects not only the photographer’s gaze but also the solitary nature of photography itself — a practice of moving through the world unseen, observing from the edges. Taken in Nice, Paris, Prague and Perth, these images invite viewers to consider the subtle distances between people, places, and perceptions."
Clément Extier is a French photographer and academic based in Perth. Originally from Lyon, France, he works primarily with film, focusing on street photography and landscapes. Since switching from digital to film in 2019, Clément has developed a distinctive visual style rooted in patience, observation, and the tactile process of analog photography.
His previous solo exhibition, Anxious Dreams, held at Vandal Gallery in Sydney, explored Perth suburban landscapes. In addition to his visual work, Clément is a published poet (Trucs, 2006) and holds a PhD in French literature, with academic publications in that field. His interdisciplinary background informs a reflective and layered approach to image-making, where language and visual culture compete.
