"Meaning Making - We've Angered the Gods!"
Since the dawn of time, or perhaps since when humans first were blessed/cursed with consciousness we have been driven by some force to create meaning out of, or for our existence.
"What is the meaning of life?"
"Why is the sky blue?"
"Why is Karen like she is?"
often creating meaning where perhaps there is none or from very little evidence,
"Its like that because the southern wind was blowing!"
"It was the full moon!"
"We've angered the Gods!"
On the other side of this, we have come a long way in unlocking a lot of the secrets of the universe and the understanding of it to become a very sophisticated race of beings, and on the surface of it the most sophisticated in the history of our planet.
However we are still prone to hallucination of meaning, easily let and susceptible being led down the proverbial garden path against our best interests or hold onto meaning which on the face of it is against the reality of the situation and against overwhelming evidence to the contrary!
What is this propensity to make meaning?
How does it work?
What is the function that it fulfils in humans to the point of necessity?
Why are we both fools and genius's at the same time?
If your interested in discussing how humans make meaning and build belief systems and what it "means" for humankind past, present and future come along on Wednesday the 3rd of September for what is always an engaging, fun and deep discussion.
I look forward to seeing you and sharing your wisdom as we explore this interesting subject.
Steve :)
