What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in the Python programming language. Join us to learn, share and network!
We hold regular in-person meetings in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Some meetings support online participation, so you can choose to RSVP either "Online" or "In person". Such "hybrid" events will also be listed in our group "Python New Zealand - Online Events". If you plan on attending meetings online, consider also joining that group for all our online events and hybrid events held in other cities.
Python New Zealand's Code of Conduct applies to all Python New Zealand events and participants agree to abide by it.
Job Ads in Comments
The Python New Zealand committee generally welcomes the posting of Python-related job opportunities in the comments on meetup.com, provided they meet the following guidelines:
- The job is Python-related.
- The job is suitable for someone based in New Zealand, i.e., it is either located in NZ or open to remote work from NZ.
- This must be clearly stated in the post.
- All available job details should be included directly in the comment, rather than linking to an external site (especially not to a list of jobs).
The committee reserves the right to remove any comments — and/or ban accounts — that violate these guidelines, at its sole discretion.

Cameron McEwing: Building Interactive Agentic Systems
Join our monthly meetup about all things Python at Trade Me's office at 181 High Street. Doors open at 5:30pm, with the talk starting at 6:30pm. Trade Me is generously providing food and drinks.
See the photo below for how to find the venue. Look for a glass door with a sign mentioning the meetup and head upstairs to the Trade Me office. Call the phone number on the sign if you arrive late and the door is closed.
The meetup will also be accessible virtually. Point your web browser at https://bbb2.nzoss.nz/b/men-pg1-cot-ai2 to access the session using Big Blue Button.
This talk will show how to build interactive agentic systems using Python and three powerful tools: (1) Google's Agent-to-Agent protocol for communication between AI agents, (2) Anthropic's Model Context Protocol for connecting agents to external tools and data, and (3) Gradio for quickly prototyping interactive web frontends for agentic workflows.
Don't hesitate to pass this information around to whomever you think may be interested to hear and discuss all things Python.
