We may start meeting in person soon! This will be discussed at the meetup. We are considering having some online, some in-person. Decisions, decisions!

Every Saturday we meet up with the larger Python community (including San Diego PyLadies (http://www.meetup.com/sd-pyladies), Open BioInformatics San Diego (https://www.meetup.com/Open-Bioinformatics-SanDiego/) and San Diego Artificial Intelligence (https://www.meetup.com/SanDiegoAI/)) to chat, learn, and hang out.

Our study group is for everyone on their Python journey, whether you're just starting out, an experienced pro, or anywhere in between. There's no formal instruction, just a bunch of folks who like to code. Sometimes we talk about a specific subject, sometimes answer questions, whatever!

With AI becoming increasingly integrated into professional workflows, it's reasonable to ask whether our traditional approaches to organizing knowledge remain relevant. This talk explores why taxonomies matter, now more than ever, as a way of mediating between human expertise and AI capabilities in complex domains.
We'll examine how taxonomies can enhance AI systems through improved data organization, output validation, nuanced context and domain-specific tuning.
We'll demonstrate how taxonomies can be key to data quality in complex domains, and review some technical principles in taxonomy design, classification schemes, and quality control mechanisms,
We'll showcase the Data Operations IL open source taxonomy project as a practical case study. The project is mapping the professional landscape of data professionals in Israel, to benefit the community with a data foundation for various needs such as career path analysis, skills gap identification, job market trend analysis, and more.

A preview of a PyCon 2025 presentation:

**Programming for Yourself**, *Paul Ganssle*

The career benefits of learning programming have become increasingly obvious over time, but few people talk about another great super-power you get from learning to program: the ability to make things that solve *your own problems*.

In this talk, I'll go through a few case studies from my own life wherein knowing how to program not only allowed me to solve problems for myself, but also allowed me to recognize that the problem I was having had a solution at all.

Additionally, I'll talk about ways the approach to engineering changes (and doesn't change!) when programming bespoke applications for a small audience.
