What we’re about

This is a group for people who are new to the rainbow - this means people who are coming out, have recently come out or are yet to come out; people who are questioning, are new to, or coming to terms with, being queer. You can be of any age, from any background and with any experience.

This is a peer discussion group focusing on aspects of queer community, identity and acceptance of self and others and focuses on friendship, connection and authentic sharing.

It is a safe and caring place you can ask questions, participate in discussions and work out what it means to be part of the queer community.

While I don’t have all the answers, you may find someone in this group has the right words to help you along the way.

*Queer Women includes trans women and non-binary or genderqueer people who identify as being part of a queer women’s space.

These events have been created to carry on from the wonderful events run by Colle with Kinda Out Queer Chicks. And with such love and gratitude to her, I hope we can keep up the loving space for our wonderful community.

Monthly Circles (peer support) will be held most months on a Sunday afternoon, 3-4.30pm in the New Farm Library meeting room. You can attend as few or as many as you like – there’s no commitment to attend every month and no pressure to share anything you’re not comfortable sharing if you do attend.

There may be an occasional social event during the year too.

WHAT THIS GROUP IS NOT

- This is not a formal therapeutic space/mental health group and is not the space to discuss trauma, mental health issues or anything that may trigger other attendees.

- This group is not about sex therapy

- This is not a dating/hookup group

** Prejudice of any kind including racism or transphobia will not be tolerated. Neither will inappropriate behaviour. Also please don’t message other members of the group before you have met them in person. **

RSVPs AND NO-SHOW POLICY

RSVPs: If you’d like to attend an event, please RSVP. If you are not intending on coming to the event, you do not need to RSVP at all.

Non-active members: It is absolutely fine to be a member of the group and not attend events. I hope you can join us one day – it will be lovely to meet you!

Cancelation etiquette: If you have RSVPed and you’re no longer able to make it, please update your RSVP as soon as you can to "Not going". Especially please try and change it no later than two hours before the event starts.

No-shows: You will be flagged as "No-show" if you RSVP to an event and then don’t show up, or cancel after the event has started.

In the event of an emergency or illness it is completely understandable that you won't be able to attend and won’t think to update your RSVP. If you just forgot or couldn’t get your act together, that is different.

If you need help installing the Meetup app on your phone, or turning on notifications, Meetup has a great help section and I can also help you. Google also has answers to most things.

Three strike policy: If you are a no-show to three events, you will be removed from the group. I will send you an email and let you know.
