Belle Isle Post-Holiday Hike — Active Walk + Trail Photography
Details
Overview
Perfect day to get back outside after the holiday. Overcast skies = soft, flattering light for photographing the river, rocks, bridges, and winter forest tones. This will be a more active hike with structured photo stops along the way.
Possibly happy hour (or your preferred libation) and social time afterwards at a local venue if there's interest.
Note:
This is a joint event with my Hiking + Photography group. We have a bunch of events lined up (and more coming) so if you want to stay informed and join those events, please check that group out as well.
What to Expect
- Belle Isle loop with river overlooks, rock formations, and industrial/bridge views
- Active pace with designated photography breaks
- Approximately 2–2.5 miles
- Focus on landscapes, motion/action shots, and working efficiently on the trail
What to Bring
- Lightweight camera setup suited for movement
- Telephoto or versatile zoom lens recommended
- Trail shoes
- Water + snacks
- Dress in layers (~70° forecast)
Where to Meet:
22nd Street Parking lot, South of the James. The Tredegar Street parking lot will likely be full at this time of day, so we'll meet in the south side lot and walk up over the Dry Rocks instead. (If you choose to park on the North Side, let me know and we'll arrange a place to meet you.) My mobile # is in the comments.
Difficulty
Moderate. Uneven terrain, stairs, and some rocky sections.
Dogs
Great for dogs, but leash required at all times.
