RTPC Monthly Daytime Photo Walk

Details

For our September walk, let's head south to the town of Ennis TX. There is more to Ennis than bluebonnets and the bluebonnet festival, and we haven't done a photo walk here before just to visit and photograph the downtown area. After lunch, for those who want to, we can head over to Sugar Ridge Ranch and shoot the Belgian horses and some longhorns from the road. Depending on how many go, I MAY be able to get us onto the ranch property, but I can't make any promises on that at this time.
For those who want to carpool/caravan from Rowlett, meet at the DART station parking lot in the area by Martin and Industrial at 9:00 am. If you want to meet in Ennis, please plan to meet at about 10:00 am at the Ennis Welcome Center at 201 NW Main Street, Ennis. There is a large parking area here along the street, and we can go into the Welcome Center for a bathroom stop and to get information if we want. I'm going to suggest we start at the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum just around the corner from the Welcome Center and then start exploring the 5 square blocks or so area from the Welcome Center. There are supposed to be some good murals, ghost murals, old buildings, etc. I would suspect we'll shoot for an hour and a half to two hours.
For lunch, which will probably be about 12:00-12:30, let's go eat some authentic Polish/Eastern European food since Ennis has a long history with Czech, Polish and Eastern European culture. We will be eating at Granny Dee's Pierogi at 213 W. Ennis Ave; they have good reviews and the menu looks delicious.
After lunch, we can head over to Sugar Ridge Ranch if we are through shooting in town. The longhorns and the Belgian horses are easily accessible on the left side on E. FM 813, Ennis, before you get to Sugar Ridge Road. The Belgians are usually also found hanging out on the ranch property on the left side of Sugar Ridge Road as people stop and give them treats over there. You might want to bring a bag of carrots! If we're lucky, we might be able to get shots of the Scottish Highland and Oreo cows if they are close enough to the road.
Lenses: bring your normal walkabout lens and a long lens if you have it to shoot the cows and horses if they aren't up close to the fence.
Hope this sounds like a fun day and let's hope it's a little bit cooler, although September can still be quite warm so plan accordingly!
