Sespe Wilderness, Piedra Blanca; Hike, Climb & Explore; 12 Mile 3000’ Workout

Sespe Wilderness is a pristine and beautiful area north of Ojai. About 2 months ago, I hiked with a group from Santa Clarita Valley, to Bear Creek Camp, using the Sespe River Trail. After the social hike, I partially explored the large boulder formations of Piedra Blanca.

For this trip, I mainly want to climb the large boulder formations, explore Piedra Blanca more thoroughly, and hike the trail to Piedra Blanca Camp and Pine Mountain Lodge Camp. On a future trip, I want to explore all the way to Willett Hot Springs, Sespe Hot Springs, Sespe River & Piedra Blanca Creek.

Temperature in this area could be hot to some people. I would continue to hike & explore in 95F weather. Tripping & falling off the boulder could be deadly.

Fellow hikers & explorers that meet the criteria below for experience, skill, ability, personality, character, and mindset, are very welcomed to join.

Time Frame: 10:30 am - 08:00 pm

Trailhead: Piedra Blanca Trailhead

Distance & Ascent: 12 miles, 3000’ Workout in scenic wilderness

Experience & Skill: rocky & uneven terrain hiking, some scrambling, bush whacking, creek crossing, wading, boulder hopping

Ability: assess & manage all risks effectively

Physical & Mental: healthy, fit & agile for hiking & exploring

Supply & Equipment: adequate hydration, food, headlight, water filter, windbreaker in case of night survival, navigation apps, basic first aid and outdoor survival kit

Personality & Character: authentic, cordial and pleasant to chat with, trustworthy, integrity, collaborative, sincere, effective in communicating

Mindset: adventurous yet very safety conscious, self responsible & self accountable, intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, open-minded worldview
