What we’re about
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Shut Up & Write!® hosts free in-person and online writing sessions for writers around the world. No pressure, no critiques, no expectations—just dedicated time, quiet focus, and a supportive community that shows up together.
Whether you’re drafting a novel, journaling, outlining, editing, or simply trying to rebuild a writing habit, you’re welcome here. Writers of all genres and experience levels are encouraged to join.
Our simple, proven format keeps things easy and effective
· A few minutes of introductions
· One full hour of focused, uninterrupted writing
· A brief check-in at the end to share progress (only if you want to)
What to Expect
Please RSVP and plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. We’ll start with quick introductions, then dive into a quiet, focused writing session.
After the hour, there’s optional time to chat and connect. Writers often share wins, challenges, and what they worked on, but no one will read or critique your writing. This is a safe, judgment-free space to simply do the work.
Running late? That’s okay. Come in, get settled, and check in with me afterward - I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write!® sign. If you arrive on time, please help make room for friendly latecomers.
What to Bring
Anything you need to write:
Laptop, notebook, tablet, or planner
Earbuds or earplugs if you’d like to block out café sounds
Location Details
We’ll meet at The Hangar at Kenmore Town Square, a free community space with a coffee shop inside if you need a boost. Start by checking the Beaver Room - a small room off to the left when you enter, with glass sliding doors. I'll try to secure it for most upcoming events.
Please always check the Meetup platform for any changes, including canceled meetings or location changes. It doesn't happen often, but I will put any updates in the Meetup platform.
A quick note: Diva Coffee is not affiliated with Shut Up & Write. If you don’t see the Shut Up & Write group when you arrive, please refrain from asking or interrupting the Diva Coffee staff. Instead, check the Meetup invitation for any notes about location changes or updates.
