**ABOUT THE EVENT**
Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress.

**What to Expect**

Before your event, please take a few minutes to make sure your video chat setup is working. Once you log in to the meeting, our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Saturday night has magic: the portals to the unconscious open, the muse is afoot, anything can happen.

Be it a poem or dissertation, journaling or nonfiction, memoir, novella or screenplay, join us for 90 minutes of focused creation. All writers and all experience levels are welcome, and don’t worry; no one will see what you've written. There are no read-alouds, sharing or critiques. This session is about getting your writing done.

Format (listings are Pacific Daylight Time; convert as appropriate):

**6:30 pm:** Introductions. State your location and a laconic, generic sentence or two about your intentions for the next 90 minutes. (E.g., *“I’m in Miami. I’m wallowing in the second act miasma.” “I’m in Bangkok. I’m revising an impossible chapter in my dissertation that strives logically to resolve contradictory findings.”*)

**6:45 pm:** Session begins. Everyone is muted by the host to minimize distractions. If you arrive late, just put your intentions in the chat and then plunge into your work. If you need to leave early, likewise, just put your progress in the chat and sail off into the night…

**8:15 pm:** Session ends. 15 minutes of check-out—how did you do? Here is where we celebrate even a nanometer of advancement! All that happened was 90 minutes of woolgathering? Get on with your bad self!!!

**8:30 pm:** Your host will end the Zoom. Feel free to continue writing, or via messenger, carry on a conversation with event participants.

I'm an early riser, but for others in say Japan, Peru, Uganda, Greece, Australia, or Antarctica your day is well underway or ending. As such, you may hop into the room anytime, Saturday and Sunday starting at 4:30am Pacific Time (PT); 5:30am Mountain Time (MT) (USA), 13:30pm CET. We write for 90 to 100 minutes.

The Shut Up and Write Online group and Boulder, Colorado group meet at the same time. It may look like very few people are attending, but if you RSVP to this, the ZOOM link is the same. There are many who write with us - tell 100 of your closest friends!

If you're not there at check-in time, post your intentions in the chatbox. If you have to leave before the end time, please check-out with your work progress. There may be times, when I'm late, if that's the case, one of the alpha members can take the reins.

This group is wide open to cyber-writers from around the world via SU&W online, but land-based in Boulder, Colorado. We'll be writing for 90-minutes with time set aside for checking in and out of each session.
