We're heading south to discover one of the Tweed Region's best-kept secrets - the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre. And, here's the treat that makes this day extra special: a relaxing brekky in a venue with big windows looking out to Mount Warning and the Tweed Valley, fine coffee, and a laid-back vibe to ease into the day. (Brekky is included).
After our leisurely breakfast, we've time to check out both the gallery shop and wander through the lovingly recreated art studio of Australia's legendary still-life painter, Margaret Olley.
Margaret actually grew up in the Tweed Valley - as a young girl she'd cross the river by rowboat each day to get to school in Murwillumbah. She went on to become one of Australia's most celebrated artists, holding over 90 solo exhibitions and receiving the country's highest honour, the Companion of the Order of Australia. In 2011, she bequeathed $1 mission to bring her legacy home - and over 20,000 objects from her famous Paddington, Sydney studio were transported here and arranged exactly as she had them. Her Hat Factory and Yellow Room have been rebuilt on this site, just as she left them.

After our cultural fix, we're off to Kingscliff for a light seaside lunch at the local Surf Life Saving Club (own cost). Perched right on Marine Parade with the ocean out front of us, we'll settle in for a relaxed two-hour stop - bistro lunch with sweeping beach views, and time for a barefoot wander along the sand.

And for our afternoon treat - instead of taking the Highway, we're taking the long way home along every scenic coastal road we can find!
We'll cruise through Coolangatta, wind along Pacific Parade over the Tallebudgera Creek bridge, follow The Esplanade and Marine Parade past all those beachside high-rises (bet they've changed since we last took this route!), meander through Burleigh to Broadbeach, then up along Surfers Paradise Esplanade and out to Main Beach Parade. Pure ocean views and coastal eye-candy the whole way.
For those of us who haven't done this drive in years, we'll be amazed at how much has changed - new developments, updated beachfronts - and the best part? You get to sit back and enjoy the ride without wrestling that busy weekend traffic yourself :-)

We'll pull into Main Beach around 4pm for one more beach stop - a 30 min stroll to stretch our legs, breathe in that salt air, and soak up the late afternoon sun before we head back to the stations.

If you cancel after bookings close, I'll endeavour to sell your ticket for you, but no guarantees - reselling tickets is a courtesy, not an entitlement.
Reselling a ticket incurs a $14 Cancellation/Amendment Fee.

Important Conditions:

Failure to arrive on time will void the ticket entirely with no refunds.
All meals are at your own expense unless mentioned as 'included' in event description above. All drinks are own cost.
Parking at meetup points is entirely your risk.
Please bring all medications which you would normally take at home.
In the event of any changes or amendments to the adventure or itinerary, or reallocation of hosts, there are no refunds.
No smoking, no vaping, no mobile phoning/texting while in company - it's considered discourteous.
If you resign or are removed from our meetup group, the Cancellation/Amendment Fee still applies, even if your departure is prior to the adventure's commencement.
Behaviour Policy: In the very rare event that a member's behaviour is significantly disruptive and impacts the group's experience, the host reserves the right to discontinue that member's participation in the tour. This includes any unused portions of the ticket, such as return transportation. Unfortunately, no refunds will be provided in these instances, and the member will be responsible for their own return arrangements and associated costs.
