Green Monster (OT3)
Details
Let's welcome 2026 with a beautiful and relatively easy hike. This hike follows Evan Thomas Creek past several frozen waterfalls and over a small gorge to arrive at the Green Monster Falls. There is a short section with chains and rope. This is a popular hike and I expect the trail to be well travelled - only micro-spikes will be required. We'll likely take an alternate route for the return to add a little elevation and variety.
We'll plan to stop at Nakiska for our usual tailgate following the hike.
Micro-spikes are required.
๐ฒ Distance: 13 km
๐ฒ Elevation gain: 400 meters
๐ฒ Time: 5 hours + driving
๐ฒ Group Size: 10 (No children, No Pets, No guests)
๐ฒ Difficulty: - OT3 routes have increasingly steeper slopes and rougher ground. There may be some loose footing, boulder hopping, small easy rock outcrops, snow patches, some bushwhacking, and minor stream wading. Boots with good ankle support and more aggressive tread may be best for these trips. Hiking poles can be a definite asset for maintaining balance on these routes and on routes of higher difficulty. Example: Whaleback
