Details
Hike details:
Rating: T2
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: approx 10 km
Elevation Gain: approx 300 m
AllTrails: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/canada/alberta/elbow-trail-to-snagmore-loop
We will start on Elbow Trail, which is the main trail leading from the trailhead across from the Allen Bill Day Pond. We will then go onto the Snagmore trail, which is carved out of the forested slopes. It rises gently at first, then more steeply to a short tree-covered ridge, before plunging back down to the valley below. We will be able to view a movie set, where numerous productions have been filmed (including "North of 60")
Once we arrive at Iron Springs / Elbow, we can return the way we came or return on Elbow Trail. Elbow is typically a X Country ski trail in winter, so want to ensure we "make nice" with the skiers.
Pace: Medium / steady pace with rest stops for water, snacks and de-layering.
Please stay with the group, due to safety - but I'm typically "cool" with breaking off into smaller groups based on speed / fitness level.
How to tell if this is your kind of hike and/or organizer:
- are you new and/or slow-medium to medium paced hiker?
- do you enjoy being outside?
- do you want to get outside of Calgary?
I am no longer a new organizer, but haven't organized much in the last 2-3 years due to illness and injury. I've hiked and mountain biked this route many times previously and love it. I enjoy getting out of the city, and would love some company. I like to socialize/converse but promise not to chat your ear off. LOL. We will go at a steady pace, but ensure no one is left behind.
Required Gear:
- backpack
- snacks & water
- appropriate clothing for hiking (layers),

Meeting place: At the signs by bathrooms at the trailhead, which is the across from the Allen Bill Day Use area.
I'll leave car pool arrangements up to each person.
