Located near Stoke‑sub‑Hamdon in Somerset, Ham Hill is a 390‑acre country park centered on one of Britain’s largest Iron Age hillforts. The ramparts stretch approximately three miles around, enclosing some 210 acres, with banks up to 12 m high . The hill, built in the 1st century BC by the Durotriges tribe, is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) .
The hike includes views over the Somerset Levels, Mendip, Blackdown, Quantock Hills, and even Exmoor on a clear day.
Here is what you need to know:

Meet at Prince of Wales pub at 10:30 - try to car share as parking may be limited

6.5 mile hike around Ham Hill and Norton-sub-Hamdon

Will stop halfway round for break (please bring own refreshments for this)

Dogs allowed - although need to be on a short lead due to livestock in many fields

A roast has been booked for 2pm at pub afterwards - need to pre order. Large £17.50 Small £15 - Beef, Pork, vegetable dumplings or quarter of chicken (large only available for this)

Dogs are allowed in pub

Great pub garden with live band playing at 3pm for those who want to stay

Montacute House is very local if people want to make a day of it and visit afterwards too

Please note the date is Sunday 24th August - which is BH weekend - so hopefully less holiday traffic on the Sunday
WEATHER
If bad weather is forecast, the walk will be cancelled the day before.
If the weather is horrendous on the day it will be cancelled on the morning of the walk, by 8:00 am

If you can’t make the event, please amend you RSVP to not going so we are not waiting unnecessarily
