Somerset singles walking group

Starting from M.S.N. High Street, we will head off in a northerly direction up Northway, past the football ground onto the Norton Radstock Greenway, and down towards Radstock. Turning south along the Five Arches Way (Old Somerset and Dorset railway line) before reaching Radstock, we will walk down to Midsomer Norton Town Park, visit the amphitheater and town viewing platform, before continuing.

I hope to stop just after Midsomer Norton South Station for a 15 min food and drink break.

We can then continue to Chilcompton alongside the restored section of railway line, where we will hopefully see one of the steam trains scheduled to run during the morning.
To finish the walk, we will make our way back to MSN following along side the River Somer for a while across fields, tracks and wooded sections.

We will finish at The Palladium Electric - JD Wetherspoons (MSN’s old cinema) for a debrief. Wetherspoons don’t take food bookings, but it is a big place so should have plenty of space for those who want a full lunch.

PACE OF WALK
For those new to the group, please consider the distance we are walking and the pace. We tend to average 3 miles per hour on varied terrain. Feel free to message me directly if you wish to discuss further.

This is a relatively easy and flat walk with only a couple of short uphill sections /steps, and app. 500ft elevation.

PARKING
Please arrive at 10.15 for a 10.30 start and consider car sharing if possible.

FOOD
There will be a short 15 minute break half way around the walk for those that want a quick snack.

DOGS:
This should be a suitable walk to bring dogs. We should encounter few, if any, livestock on route. Dogs are not allowed in Wetherspoons however, in case you were thinking of joining us after for a drink or lunch.

Charity
Most of you know Mafe who is a member of our walking group. She owns the Butterflies Cafe in Clevedon and has offered to host a private social event in her cafe after the hike.

Mafe will be creating a range of Asian delights - including meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and it will be served as buffet help yourself meal. She intends to include a desert too and there will be coffee and tea available.

You are welcome to bring your own alcohol/soft drinks for the event and there is a Sainsbury’s Local opposite the cafe if you need to make any purchases. There is also a cash machine located here.

We are asking for a minimum cash donation of £18 although the more money we raise the better!! The chosen charity is Friends of Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (Registered charity 264136) - in memory of Mafe’s husband. They focus entirely on enhancing the treatment environment and providing direct support to patients and families at BHOC.

As the main aim of this event is to raise money, when signing up it is expected that you will attend the whole event and ask if you are unable to join for the meal afterwards that the donation is still given.

Parking & departure
We will be meeting on Dial Hill Road by Zig Zag path. This is next to a bus stop and an iconic art deco house (see photo below).

Please note that Dial Hill Road is a long road so best to use What3Words or if you look for where the Kings Rd junction you should find us!
Please park respectfully in nearby residential roads.

The cafe can host up to 40 people. Therefore, we are planning to complete the walk in two groups to reduce numbers on the pathway at a given time.

We will meet at 10:15am and when the first 20 are in attendance they will leave with the remainder of the party leaving at 10:30am.

Walk
This is a 6.5 mile varied trail taking you along the coastal path and returning through the farmlands and woodlands. Weather permitting, there will be panoramic views across the Gordano Valley and the Severn Estuary to the Welsh hills beyond the water.

For those who recently completed the Gordano Loop, please note that for the part on the costal path we will be traveling in the opposite direction which gives a completely different perspective.
