Shepton Mallet Explorer – Approx. 7 miles

Meeting Point – Collett Park Café, Park Rd, Shepton Mallet - BA4 5BP. Free parking is available on Sundays at the Mendip District Council car park, off Cannard's Grave Road (A371) - BA4 5BT.

From the meeting point at the Café, we will head North through the park, past St Peter & St Paul’s Church and across the edge of Town up onto the East Mendip Way. This will get the main climb of the walk out of the way early.

We will stop for a short break about half way, so bring any mid-walk drinks and snacks you might like with you.

On our return, we will pass a wind turbine and duck pond before getting back onto the Somerset & Dorset Railway path back to Shepton. Once back to the edge of town, passing the Viaduct and Kilver Court Gardens, we will head back to the car park along the Millennium Way.

N.B. I have booked a table at the Thatched Cottage Inn (BA4 5QF) on the edge of Shepton for a roast lunch after the walk at 2pm. Please indicate when responding whether you would be interested in lunch, and if so, what you would like to eat. The choices are Roast Beef, Pork, Chicken or Veggie Wellington. £15.95 - £18.95 depending on choice.

It would be possible to visit the Pub for lunch near the end of the walk (making it 7.5m), but this would mean a 1 mile walk back to the car park after lunch which I've assumed people wouldn't want. Therefore the current plan is for those eating to drive to the pub once the walk is finished (Possibly lift sharing depending on numbers, and dropping people back to the car park afterwards, it’s only a 3 min drive).

There is a kids park run held early every Sunday morning, but I have been told by the Café owner that they are normally finished before 10am, so hopefully shouldn’t cause us too many problems.
