What we’re about
Welcome to St Albans Pub Goers!
Our group will be indulging in the best, no nonsense pubs, etc St Albans has to offer. It's for friendly people who want to get together and socialise over a drink in a decent pub.
Where will we go?
Our pubs of choice will:
> * be places with a bit of character, history and interest in them.
> * Be quiet enough we can actually hear each other talk (unless we're going for pub band, in which case all bets are off).
> * Actually, we do bands
> * Have a respectable range of drinks – so at aminimum that's proper beer, interesting wines & ciders. But if soft drinks are your thing then that's OK too.
In general, we will avoid:
> * Pubs/Bars with TVs (though turned off is acceptable)
So, to give you a feel, some of the ones I'm thinking of for starters (not a full list):
> * Farmers Boy
> * Lower Red Lion
> * White Hart Tap
> * White Lion
> * Six Bells
> * Robin Hood
> * Garibaldi
> * The Boot
> * Mad Squirrels
What sort of people should come?
- Everyone!
St Albans Pub Goers are friendly people that are happy to chat about anything and everything. I'll always endeavour to make sure new (and nearly new) attendees get introduced to people – so, please make everyone welcome and don’t be afraid to start randomly chatting to stranger (and be ready for people to do that to you too )
Any rules?
Due to the nature of some of the pubs (i.e. relatively small) I will sometimes limit numbers for a given event. Sorry about that. Obviously, these are public houses, so, that doesn’t actually stop anyone from turning up. However, I want to make sure the landlords/ladies are happy to see us and that we don’t crowd out everyone else in the pub (or, indeed, ourselves). So, please bear that in mind.
Also, with groups of medium numbers it's more important that your RSVPs are accurate. So, please:
- Only RSVP "Yes", if you intend to come (i.e. not waiting for a 'better offer')
Should your plans change (which is fine) please update you're RSVP as soon as possible so someone else gets chance to attend.
Cheers
Pete

See all- Pub Goers - St Albans Beer Festival - With BandSt Albans Arena, St Albans
Greetings once again Pub Goers,
We are fortunate in St Albans to have a particularly fine Beer and Cider Festival. To quote the website "Hundreds of cask ales and craft beers, international beers from all over the world, an extensive range of ciders and perries, and phenomenal street food and snacks will all be on offer.."
Various info that may be helpful (all on website too)
* Loads of beers in the main hall but also elsewhere in the building
* Main Hall Cider & Perry Bar – Loads of beers
* A range of no/low alcohol drinks will be available somewhere :)
* There's snacks & street food too but the web site doesn't say much about it. My experience is there was a good range.
* No wine or spirits I believe. The fest runs Weds to Sat. We shall be going Wednesday evening to avoid waiting at the bar. Like every night there is a band.
The band on Weds night is: The Bear Pit Band (Pop / Rock Covers, 4 piece). We've seen them before & they are good!
They are on at 8.30 - 10.30On-the-door admission costs £10 on Wednesday (or £5 for those with a valid CAMRA or NUS membership card - please remember your membership card).
Souvenir pint and half pint glasses will be available to buy.
You can buy beer vouchers as you need them.Details: https://stalbansbf.org.uk/admission
There's also some entry packages (https://stalbansbf.org.uk/admission) that saves waiting or are for multiple days. But I doubt there will be a queue anyway.
Here's the festival website for more detail: https://stalbansbf.org.uk/
And location map for the Alban Arena: https://goo.gl/maps/vPiKkJNGAya7EpF48
It's difficult to say the best spot to meet everyone. If it's too noisy in the main arena (before the band comes on there is 'bingo'), so we may go outside (food area) until the band starts.
I will try to update via Meetup App on the day (though I recall mobile phone reception problems in the main hall).Any problems finding us look for my identifiable t-shirt and/or text me on 0789 975 56 19
Cheers
Pete
