What we’re about
Welcome to St Albans Pub Goers!
Our group will be indulging in the best, no nonsense pubs, etc St Albans has to offer. It's for friendly people who want to get together and socialise over a drink in a decent pub.
Where will we go?
Our pubs of choice will:
> * be places with a bit of character, history and interest in them.
> * Be quiet enough we can actually hear each other talk (unless we're going for pub band, in which case all bets are off).
> * Actually, we do bands
> * Have a respectable range of drinks – so at aminimum that's proper beer, interesting wines & ciders. But if soft drinks are your thing then that's OK too.
In general, we will avoid:
> * Pubs/Bars with TVs (though turned off is acceptable)
So, to give you a feel, some of the ones I'm thinking of for starters (not a full list):
> * Farmers Boy
> * Lower Red Lion
> * White Hart Tap
> * White Lion
> * Six Bells
> * Robin Hood
> * Garibaldi
> * The Boot
> * Mad Squirrels
What sort of people should come?
- Everyone!
St Albans Pub Goers are friendly people that are happy to chat about anything and everything. I'll always endeavour to make sure new (and nearly new) attendees get introduced to people – so, please make everyone welcome and don’t be afraid to start randomly chatting to stranger (and be ready for people to do that to you too )
Any rules?
Due to the nature of some of the pubs (i.e. relatively small) I will sometimes limit numbers for a given event. Sorry about that. Obviously, these are public houses, so, that doesn’t actually stop anyone from turning up. However, I want to make sure the landlords/ladies are happy to see us and that we don’t crowd out everyone else in the pub (or, indeed, ourselves). So, please bear that in mind.
Also, with groups of medium numbers it's more important that your RSVPs are accurate. So, please:
- Only RSVP "Yes", if you intend to come (i.e. not waiting for a 'better offer')
Should your plans change (which is fine) please update you're RSVP as soon as possible so someone else gets chance to attend.
Cheers
Pete

Welcome Pub Goers!
Music at The Mermaid for our next Pub Goers! Hopefully with good weather.
The band for this event is: The Skeltons (Country, 6 piece)
According to Lemonrock: "The Skeltons are an acoustic 2/3 piece, two/three vocals and two/three guitars. The band is a family unit (Holly, Laurie and Andy Skelton) that perform Country/Americana music with close harmonies."
More details here: https://www.lemonrock.com/theskeltonsFirs time I've seen them, so should be interesting....
The band is on at 5pm (or something like that) but we'll meet from 4pm (early is good to get table space)
As always, keep your RSVPs up to date and don't RSVP "Yes" if you aren't coming.
The Mermaid is an excellent Pub, Good beer & cider range, Gins, Foreign beers & wine, etc, etc. Here's their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/mermaidstalbans

Dear Pub Goers, We're off to a festival! It's not too far, just near Ware - 5th - 7th July 2024

Sign of the Times festival is Three days of rock, indie, pop, punk, britpop, ska, mod, alternative, and more. Two main stages - huge Main Outdoor Stage and Big Top Stage
With two big stages of fantastic live music, plus lots of licensed bars, with a wide choice, loads of food stalls, with cuisine from across the globe and stalls and attractions, there’s something for everyone – campers and day visitors.
We went last year and we were impressed enough that we bought tickets for this year without even seeing the line up. So, come and join us!

Myself & Caroline will be camping the whole time (weather notwithstanding)
These details to be confirmed: Currently, myself & Caroline plan to get to the site on Thursday night or earlyish Friday morning.
Meet up plans:
- Once in the festival we will get our bearings and find a spot to meet. I'll also pick a few times that will be 'meeting times'. Only at those times will I guarantee to be there and only for 10-15 mins.
- Also, for each stage we'll probably have somewhere we are likely to hang out (unless I rush to the front :) )
- Also, I will also try to use the WhatsApp group meet people. Note that previous fest experience shows this to be very hit & miss (messages delayed by hour+)
Apart from that, people (including me) will be doing whatever suits them (e.g. to go forward or wander off elsewhere).
Myself and Caroline will be making our own way there. Everyone else needs to do the same. I suggest people use the chat for this event to try and schedule common lifts, etc if you want to.
Maps now available - Here : [To be added]
[NOT DONE YET] I have also set up a WhatsApp group. If you want to be on that group, you need to direct message me your phone number (remember that everyone in that group will see your number too).
This year's notable artists are:
- The Waterboys
- Feeder
- Jake Bugg
- The Brand New Heavies
- Hothouse Flowers
- Ned's Atomic Dustbin

Caroline and I already have purchased our our tickets. You MUST BUY YOUR OWN TICKET
