This walk climbs the magnificent Barrenjoey Headland to its historic Lighthouse, with stunning views over Broken Bay and Pittwater. Descend and cross the dunes to travel south along the beach. Proceed over the headland to Whale Beach via McKay Reserve and follow Whale Beach Road to Bangalley Head, the highest point on Sydney’s northern coastline. From there walk around the rocks to Avalon Beach stopping at St Micheals Cave on the way. You will probably need to bring a pair of rubber booties or old volleys as wet feet is likely due to the higher tide.

Start Location: Governor Phillip Park (Beach Rd bus stop)

Transport: B1 Bus from Wynyard Station, Carrington St, Stand B at 7:05am to B-Line Mona Vale Stop arriving 7:52am. 199 Bus leaving 8:03am to Beach Rd near Governor Phillip Park arriving at 8:28am

Duration: 5 to 6 Hrs

Distance: 13Km

Speed: Medium pace (3km per Hr) with plenty of time for stops and photographs.

Finish time: Around 2:30pm at Avalon Beach (Buses back to City run every 1/2 Hr)

WHAT TO BRING. Please wear good bushwalking shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, rain jacket, first aid kit, picnic lunch and 2L water.
